In case you saw the incredible vert finals tonight at @xgames where Jimmy Wilkins took first with this otherworldly run: my apologies to Alex Perelson for mistakenly identifying Jimmy’s last trick (tailgrab Mackenzie) as an NBD. Here is Alex doing that trick a while back for his video part that I had somehow forgotten about (shown at end here). Thanks to @vurtclub for catching my error. So Jimmy’s was the first ever done in competition. Still an insane trick… and I would have had the same reaction. Carry on.
After-buzzer slammer from yesterday’s best trick event: My plan was to do an invert on the surfboard then move on to this trick (which I’ve only made once, check my stories): nollie 3 shuv blunt to fakie. But I couldn’t get consistent setup airs for the invert so I ran out of attempts. Not that it would have changed anything; I was just happy to be in the mix… and happy to be sliding on my back, apparently.

Happy 50th to my friend and incomparable doubles partner @andymac720. An incredible skater, father and skating advocate who has stood the test of time as he prepares to qualify for the 2024 Olympics. Thanks for always being in the right place at the right time… like this: our most complicated doubles routine ever, which we completed just weeks before I broke my leg last year. I had a blast jumping into the @xgames best trick this afternoon and witnessing all of the progression first-hand. Also checked off a bucket list item: invert on a surfboard 🤷🏼. Thanks to everyone for the support and kind words as I cling to my fading youth.
