When I first moved to Australia 20 years ago, I hadn’t got my head around where everything was, so I thought Perth was up the top in a Darwin-esque sort of direction. I also thought the AFL contained so many teams, no one would notice if I said I barracked for the Caloundra Sea Bats. Cal points out the many pairs of safety gloves Sandra has arrayed at her bench. No other baker has these. Sandra lets Cal hold the pointy, slightly alarming, wooden dowel that the waffle cones will be formed on. A tug of war ensues when Cal refuses to hand it back. Sandra girls a waffle over the dowel, and Cal immediately fails to make it into a cone. She calls it a rose, which is an extremely generous description)
