It took me 5 years to come to terms with this episode of our lives but I have finally summoned the courage to talk about my ordeal to help many parents who reach out to @haag.peter & I as they deal with the trauma of preterm birth and loss of a baby. Peter n I want such parents to know that they can get through this. In personal experience we both can vouch that your Preemie baby is a true survivor. #preemies show us the power of faith & prayer and the fight of the human spirit. Remember that most #prematurebabies survive and live completely normal, healthy lives.
PS: Preterm is defined as babies born alive before 37 weeks of #pregnancy are completed.
The outcome of our 2nd spontaneous #twinpregnancy was bittersweet due to Baby Shamsher’s loss due to a heart condition.( I went into labour at 32 weeks due to my fathers sudden passing.) It was very difficult for Peter n I but we smiled after many million tears in this photograph (1) to seal a happy memory for our blessing baby @arthurjhaag arrival as he went straight to NICU in an incubator for 3 months immediately upon his arrival. The NICU was a strange & difficult environment. From our experience, accepting that there will be good days and bad days will help you to feel less shocked & worried when challenging days happen. While not an option for everyone, Peter & I moved into the same hospital in Dubai for the few months of #nicu as loss of Shamsher left us immensely anxious about Arthur and feelings of frustration, intense sadness, nervousness, disappointment, guilt, anger, love overwhelmed us too. So please know that you are not alone in how you are feeling. Know that extreme & sometimes contradictory emotions are experienced by nearly every parent of a preemie at one time or another. It is very important at such a time to remember you can be more effective as a team than individually so watch your teamwork as parents. Speaking, singing gently to your premature baby in the NICU is a great way to bond and feel close, even when you can’t hold him. Remember Impossible odds set the stage for incredible miracles.
Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.

So … I have a rare genetic condition and in my case Non-identical (fraternal) twins or multiples tend to be hereditary. Some people inherit a gene that causes more than one egg to be released during ovulation, increasing the likelihood of multiples being conceived. This can make for lots of twins down the generations!

This year marks 22 years since I became a runners up at the @missuniverse pageant held in SanJuan, Peurto Rico in 2001 right after India’s great triple wins at Ms Universe, Ms World & Miss Asia Pacific the year before ( @larabhupathi @priyankachopra @diamirzaofficial ). Amongst 103 contestants at only 5 ft 6 inches ( I was one of the shortest contestants that year) yet I went on to become a runners up, a moment of great pride for me, upholding my country’s legacy.
I entered the fashion industry at a very young age (15) after being scouted at an army party. The struggles that one went through in a new and upcoming fashion industry in a not so open minded kolkata was not easy, plus the pressure of studies & competitive exams made my entire teenage a journey of hard work and toil. I also suffered from severe acne and very severe endometriosis and had to be hospitalised almost every month during my Menstruation due to severe dysmenorrhea and blood loss so it was an incredibly intense life for a child who had many dreams and aspirations. While others would enjoy weekends I would take up shoot and ramp show offers in kolkata and work for meagre amounts of monies. Many a times I wouldn’t even end up getting paid for my hard work and unauthorised use of images due to lack of industry regulations. Then there was the constant criticism and rejection either I was too white, too thin, not tall enough or too tall etc. For many years I had to hear many derogatory things about all the things that made me unique and go on despite that. For a child in her teens it was truly overwhelming hence the journey to the crown was a very intense one.
Crowns… after all are not made of sparkling stones, they are made of sheer determination, strength, dedication, devotion, struggle and immense courage too.
Beauty is a “Powerful Tool of Persuasion” & I am so thankful for having the opportunity represent my country on various platforms since as an actor, brand ambassador UN equality champion and an activist. Having said that : Being beautiful is not being “born beautiful” It is striving, lifelong to live & achieve your maximum potential as a human being.

The perpetrator consistently changed his location on social media but was hiding in #pakistan , as a result there of legal recourse was not possible for me & he continued to assault my character & modesty from across the border with false bizarre claims.
I thereby took the matter to @ncwindia who took cognisance of my complaint & addressed matter to the respected Joint Secretary (PAI Division), Ministry of External Affairs @meaindia for initiating necessary action in the matter. The Commission has received a positive response from the MEA communicated via letter. The Ministry views the incident with utmost seriousness and has raised the matter with Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi seeking an immediate investigation/action of the incident.
This wasn’t just a fight for the open assault on my character but also an assault on my integrity, my family, honour, above all my God father & beloved mentor Mr #ferozkhan who is no longer in this world here to defend himself. He was my mentor, friend, my guide & I am eternally grateful for the love, respect & career he gave me.
So grateful to @ncwindia & amazing Ms @khushsundar for her unparalleled wonderful work with women’s issues, Ms Rekha Sharma Chairperson @ncwindia above all the Ministry of External Affairs & Government of India because they upheld the pride of every Indian woman by initiating this action. 4generations of my family including my father who was a war hero gave their blood to our nation & today when they are no longer in this world I feel glad to be treated as a daughter of #india where in the Government is my protector and guardian.

Celebrating Kargil Vijay Diwas with a heavy heart. The memories of Kargil still linger in my heart. In final years of my school it was a profound impact on my life. As a soldiers daughter I witnessed up close the losses, the silence and many funerals. The brave hearts left behind those who must grieve until they live….I still remember my mom praying for the casualties to stop.
My deepest gratitude to the @indianarmy.adgpi @indianairforce @indiannavy Indian armed forces, the heroes who withheld our nations honour, the supreme sacrifices of our brave hearts and their loved ones on who’s shoulders rests the glory of Mother India 🇮🇳
I must have done something right to be born 4th generation Indian army family. We were raised with the mindsets that our parents may not return from their jobs in the service of the nation. But it’s easier said than done. Ask those who must still live knowing they will never see their most beloved ever again.

July 26 marks India’s victory over Pakistan in 1999 Honouring the bravery and sacrifices made by Indian soldiers during the intense and prolonged war. India lost 527 soldiers before the war ended on July 26, 1999. Today it has been 24 years of the victory.
With folded hands in deepest gratitude I thank our Kargil heroes.

Spent an amazing day at @nhmwien the “The Natural History Museum Vienna” founded over 270 years ago, it is a research museum whose origins date back to the imperial collections of the 18th century.
The only unpleasant aspect is that it was so hot inside the museum that I almost fainted and even lost my memory I think, forgot to take photographs like I always do… So If you are planning to go in summer please carry a hand fan, cold water, Extra t shirt and a life partner who can give you mouth to mouth resuscitation 🤭.
Having said that, the Natural History Museum Vienna is an outstanding example of Viennese architecture in the city’s historicism tradition. It was opened in 1889 as the first true museum of evolution, and both the building and its decor reflect the valuable natural sciences collections they house.
It’s a phenomenal experience to witness up-close some of the museum’s collections which comprise of more than 30 million objects from biology, earth sciences, anthropology and archaeology.
All in all : I loved it and I recommend a trip to this awesome world heritage site as long as you are armed with electrolytes and a fan…. (Not the admiring variety that won’t help 😁)
