Jada Pinkett Smith Instagram – We can’t imitate the greats. Ntozake Shange’s work has always inspired me. Many know her award winning play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow is Enuf. But it was her novel Sassafrass, Cypress and Indigo that became a treasure for me. Ntozake’s poetry illustrated and defined what “black girl magic” meant before it was even a term. This is one of the many reasons I use her poetry in my memoir Worthy to help express my journey.
