My boyfriend did the most loving thing he could do for us…he broke up with me. Honestly, it still feels surreal, but I know this is the best for both of us, as our values are not compatible enough for both of us to thrive within the relationship. I just watched The Breakup yesterday (had no idea I was going to get broke up with later that day) and a I wrote this down as a takeaway, “I want to be with someone who WANTS to do the dishes, without them having to sacrifice who they are/want to be.” Him giving me the level of connection that would make the relationship a level 10 for me would be sacrificing his need for independence. So, we’d never be able to both me at a 10, so our ceiling was capped, and he said “I know you’ll find someone who together you can be at a level 20.” Now it makes sense…a while back I rated my relationship satisfaction an 8 and he rated it a 3-5. And a couple weeks ago, he rated it an 8 and I said 4-6. I was having mixed feelings about our relationship and asked the universe yesterday for a sign to point to whether we should stay together or break up and to make it obvious enough that I would see the sign. Well, I got what I asked for, him saying “my intention coming over tonight is to break up,” was obvious enough for SURE. 😜 The ending of a relationship doesn’t mean failure to me. Tim & I had so much love, growth, and support for one another and I’m SO SO SO grateful to have had the journey that we did. We are both hopeful we can be friends sometime down the road. He’s an incredible human being.
