Judy Joo Instagram – I had to develop a French recipe for comedian Joe Wilkinson @gillinghamjoe on Cooking with the Stars. Thus, this tasty Tarte Flambée (Flammkuchen) recipe is really easy, quick and gloriously tasty. 🇫🇷
I over engineered the recipe, so it would be super easy for Joe to make. The dough is the measured amount to the exact size of a half sheet pan, to roll to the correct crispy thinness that you want in this pizza like tarte…
This classic dish from Alsace is known for its thin, crispy base, and a tasty savoury topping of smoky bacon, Emmental cheese, and sweet caramelised onions. I also like to add fresh thyme leaves for a welcomed bite of fragrance and herbiness. 🥓🧀
– Use high quality extra virgin olive oil in your dough. It’ll give your crust that crunch and flavor.
– Use good quality smokey bacon and finely dice it so every bite gets its fair share.
– Stick with Emmental for your cheese. Its creamy texture and mild flavor make it the sidekick for your bacon and onions.
– Add a little sprinkle of fresh thyme and a grating of nutmeg. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you.
– To wash down your scrumptious Flammkuchen, whip up an Alsatian wine spritz. 🍸
It’s a refreshing blend of gin, Alsace gewürztraminer, lemon juice, and golden syrup (or honey).
Served with a side salad loaded with baby spinach and rocket, it’s the perfect balance. 🥗
