Judy Joo Instagram – Feast your eyes on the Ultimate Korean BBQ Beef Short Ribs (Galbi) 🇰🇷

Galbi is a classic grilled dish that marries Korea’s famed sweet and umami filled soy based marinade with the savoury smokiness of a charcoal grill. The two techniques create a bbq dish you won’t forget and the family will love. 🥩🔥

Elevate your Galbi with these tips:

Choose bone-in LA Galbi cut short ribs or trimmed boneless rib-eye steak for a succulent dish.

Use Asian or ripe pears in your marinade for an authentic Korean sweetness.

Fresh ginger and garlic bring aromatic nuances you won’t want to miss.

Dark brown sugar adds a richer, complex sweetness.

Roasted sesame oil imparts a nutty, toasty character.

Marinate the beef for at least 2 hours, or better yet, overnight, for the deepest flavours.

Serve with red or green lettuce leaves, perilla leaves, steamed white rice, spicy lettuce wrap sauce (ssamjang), spicy scallion salad, and kimchi for the complete Korean BBQ experience.

Owned by the famed Big Mamma @bigmamma.uk group whose other splashy venues include the some of London’s most Instagrammed restaurants, Carlotta, their newest venue proves no different. 🔥

They’ve completely transformed a once sleepy deli on the high street, into a wonderfully fun vibe-y venue. 

The captivating decor is hard to describe— 1970s Las Vegas wedding chapel meets kitschy vintage basement, complete with random memorabilia, felt letter boards and accented with neon signage. Sounds totally odd, but it works. 👌

A visit to the loos is worth the trip too, if only to snap a selfie with backwards written “made for purpose” neon signs in the toilets, and a haloed Madonna beckoning at the sinks. 

The food feels Italian American as well, with the stuffed chicken parm a must have. 

A juicy tender chicken breast, breaded and fried gorgeously bronze and crispy, and stuffed with oozing mozz on the inside. A tangy spag sauce made this dish totally addictive. 

Even the warm sour dough bread with aromatic herby butter was comforting and delightful. 

The burnt cheesecake was also a hit— a light and creamy Italian version. It’s only been open a few weeks now, and it’s packed solid already especially the al fresco tables outside.
