Thank you SO much @rebelgirls and @annabellesbookclubla for collaborating with @_making_space__ and I on this very special event, What an amazing final celebration and gathering to commemorate Disability Pride Month! As we know there are not enough brands that prioritise disability pride month, so thank you for taking the opportunity to provide a platform for disabled voices. There’s nothing I love more than listening and learning from this amazing community and having conversations with young people who want to see a world that is equitable, safe and just for everyone. When we are given access to platforms, funding and meaningful support – we can accelerate positive change. As I write this, on a very low spoon count, I am reminded that it is OK to be proud of being Disabled but still have complicated relationship with our medical conditions. A massive, special thank you also to @probonoasl and @stephbohn, Lucy & Sadie, As well as @imtiffanyyu @charleyroyall @mariealyse_ @miraclepelayoofficial @lovingmydots @marisahamamoto @elisa.richards @theatouchton @verityvandams @dorayucas and so many others for your support. #RepresentationMatters #ChronicIllness #Ostomy #Spoonie #DisabilityPride #DisabilityRights Image description, 1) A young girl smiles holding a Rebel Girls book and Keely is seated in a Annabelles Book Club directors chair holding a pen 2) Annabelle, Keely and Lucy stand in front of a very colourful bookshelf 3) Lucy and Keely are seated in Annabelles book club directors chairs speaking to an audience. Until next time D.C. ✈️ 👋 The last few days have been equally as exciting as they have exhausting! Massive congratulations to @maria_town and her team at @aapdofficial for a wonderful event celebrating the 33rd anniversary of the ADA. It was incredible being in a room with so many leaders and changemakers including @senduckworth, @margauxjoffe, @jennifer.lee1, @andraealavant, @sheisjamiet @cascade4ever @kiknack @carlyfahey and so many more, In addition and thanks to Anna Perng and AAPD, for a very special experience – I was able to take my mum to the White House! She has been with me through everything, including the very lowest and hardest parts of my disability journey so far. And, one of my favourite humans @thetexastroya and I were also able to roam around the White House! We saw“Rent” in concert the symphonic world premiere starring @alistroker who absolutely crushed it! All while trying keep up with the exciting things happening at @_making_space__ and @_making_space_media… (last photo says it all 😆) The ADA did not miraculously make America accessible & equitable, it was a major milestone but we do have a LONG way to go, and it certainly does not take away the nuances of medical conditions, but I am proud of being in a community that is constantly demanding and creating change. #RepresentationMatters #DisabilityPride #Spoonie #ChronicIllness #Ostomy #ADA33 Image descriptions, 1) A framed photo of President George H. Today I had the tremendous honour of being seated around a table with @vp Vice President Kamala Harris, Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Department of Transportation Disability Policy Advisor Kelly Bucklund, The Honourable Tony Coelho, and Disability Rights leaders and advocates. Disabled people are impacted daily by inaccessible transportation, creating significant barriers to employment, education, healthcare, and community. This lack of accessible transit fundamentally inhibits our independence, quality of life, and full participation in society, underscoring the urgent need for equitable solutions. During todays convening on accessible transportation the The Vice President said, “An accessible America is a better America”. And the following items were discussed, • Department of Transportation (DOT) Accessible Lavatories on Aircraft rule • Accessible Air Travel • All Stations Accessibility Program • Airport Terminals Program • US Access Board and DOT • Enhanced Mobility of Seniors & Individuals with Disabilities Section 5310 I am left with an overwhelming sense of gratitude and hope. I am so thankful to those who have been doing this work for decades, and people like my friend and business partner, @sophlmorg who has positively impacted the lives of so many disabled people and has made critical legislative change. Thank you @annaperngpa for your incredible work and including us in today’s conversation. And thank you @em_vrabel for being an amazing advocate & team member. @_making_space_work @_making_space_media #RepresentationMatters #RightsOnFlights Image description: Vice President Kamala Harris and Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg host a roundtable with diverse leaders from the disability, aging, and veterans communities inside the Eisenhower Executive Office. We often discuss these three subjects – Disability, Climate Change, and Media – in their separate spheres, but it is imperative we delve into the crossovers because there are many. Climate change isn’t just an environmental issue – it’s a human one, and marginalised communities, especially the Disabled community are disproportionately effected. Enter the Media, as content creators, media professionals and storytellers, we have the responsibility to shed light on these communities, and I want to see the stories not just about how Disabled people are affected by climate change but how Disabled people are positively affecting climate change; for instance lets tell stories about activists such as Daphne Frias and Nalleli Cobo. The representation of Disabled people in the climate conversation is not just a matter of visibility, but also of accuracy and inclusivity. It was an honour to hear the perspective and to be on a panel alongside David Radcliff, Daphne Frias, Danielle Perez, Stephanie Nogueras and Natalie Trevonne. Thank you Hollywood Climate Summit, Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and all the event producers for creating an incredible, inclusive, impactful and accessible event. Thank you @toryburchfoundation and @toryburch for the most incredible community. I am very honoured to be a fellow. Tory’s words hit home, “Remember the power of saying ‘NO’.” As a founder, and especially a chronically ill founder, it was a very necessary reminder. Entrepreneurship bombards us with opportunities but living with a chronic illness has (forcibly) taught me the value and power of prioritization. It’s not about chasing every opportunity, but about finding the right ones that align with my long-term goals. It’s about cultivating a sustainable and fulfilling entrepreneurial journey, where self-care is not compromised but embraced as a vital part of the process. Saying ‘NO’ is not a sign of weakness or defeat; rather, it allows us to align our actions ensuring that every ‘YES’ is intentional, purposeful, and aligned to our vision. #entrepreneurship #RepresentationMatters #spoonie #ostomate #disability #a11y Image description: slide one, Molly, Sahara, Keely and Heesun smiling and in front of the Tory Burch Foundation wall.
