Tony Bennett’s given last name is “Benedetto”…it means blessed one. He certainly was, but we, his audience and fans were blessed even more; by his artistry and talent , of course, but also by his attitude and optimism. He lived the theory of “The best is yet to come” and after his Alzheimer’s diagnosis, he remained positive and hopeful saying life was wonderful even with the disease. At @leezascareconnection our philosophy is to focus on what’s left rather than what’s lost, and that’s exactly what Tony and his wife Susan did. Together, they kept him on the road, singing his music, connecting with audiences, and focusing on what was left. We learned so much from both of them about navigating this memory-robbing disease with grace. That surely is an important part of his powerful legacy. My Barbies were all reporters and I dreamed that they ruled the world …it never occurred to me that I couldn’t. My daughter and I watched the Barbie movie together and we related differently, but the same. It challenged our views of perfection, stereotypes and how we view the experience of being human. It was nostalgic (I had to confirm that yes, there really was a “magic earring” Ken and a dog that actually pooped!)
