You who learned to sew just to make me a mermaid tail for the pre-school Halloween parade. You who spent endless hours drawing invented creatures and playing with Polly Pockets on the ground. You who picked me up from every sleepover I was scared at, even if it was 3am. You whose advice is tough but firm, whose laugh is hard earned and delightful. You who taught me hard work and diligence but is also always down to play hooky and watch bad TV for an afternoon, who spent every day I was in the hospital in a chair beside me, who refuses to let us wallow but understands when we do. You who lets me say “go off, grey haired king” and thinks it’s funny and once told me to “get out of my grill” when we were fighting. You’re the most philosophically rigorous goofball known to man, always willing to change your mind and always able to call bullshit. You are impossible to write about, really, because you’re so specific it winds up as platitudes. Everything good has been because of you, and nothing bad has been your fault 😂 In essence, you’re the reason fake holidays exist. We love you so much.
