Lena Dunham Instagram – 40 years ago today these kids got hitched. Ever since they’ve been moving the furniture constantly, trading off on long drives, arguing about when to employ overhead lighting and how many people constitutes a good dinner party, going to bed talking and waking up at 4am just to talk more (often directly outside a door where I am sleeping) and making art side by side. It’s because of them that even in the darkest moments I never gave up on the idea that I could find someone to walk through life with, and that when I did it would feel like meeting a friend. They’re parents who know when to push and when to hang back, when to meddle and when to say “okay, try it, see how it goes” (even if they see the writing on the wall and it’s not great.) They’re funnier than most comedy writers and smarter than many philosophers. They’re elegant and weird and tough and sweet. They will always be home, to each other and to me.
