Meet Daphne and Zephaniah, my late maternal grandparents who came to Britain from Jamaica in the 1950’s upon an invitation from the British government, with promises of great opportunities. The reality they faced was very different than advertised. Today marks the 75th anniversary of the Windrush and I celebrate the contribution of my grandparents and all those whos sacrifices should never be underestimated. I’m also thinking of those families still waiting for compensation from @10downingstreet and @ukhomeoffice after the disgrace of the Windrush Scandal, which saw the Home Office deny residency rights and citizenship to many people who had been living in the UK legally for most, if not all of their lives.

I was so bloody nervous to meet Paul when we worked together on a movie many years ago. He quickly put me at ease with a smile and a wry joke. He was so bloody kind to me and everyone I ever saw him encounter, which goes a long way in my book. Although some time has passed since we last saw one another in person, receiving his annual card every holiday was a true highlight of the season. I’m so saddened by this news. Rest well Paul and thank you.xo
