Nabiyah Be Instagram – A minha vida é a celebração de muitas. Dia Internacional da Mulher Negra Latino – Americana e Caribenha. A black, latina and Caribbean woman. How many do I know? How many am I? There’s Tereza de Benguela,my grandma Christine and even Sister Nancy… but somewhere amongst these forgotten names, is my own. I sit down next to one of the images of Sebastião Salgado, depicting the sad eyes of a black woman around a tiny squared window. The title: “ Other Americas”. I think to myself: “ if she’s the other, then so am I”. Invisible, but present. What if she knew how much her invisibility shined on my own light, gave me solid grounds to grow and fortified my impetus ? Would she smile? I dare to say she would. Because as I rise from the ashes and unravel my truth out in the open, they all live with me. A life they could only dream of. My name is Nabiyah Be, I am a black , Latina and Caribbean woman and i am happy and free. And maybe, just maybe not fearing all the facets of freedom is our biggest victory yet.
