A mother is born the day her child is born. And then time flies. Today V is 13!
Sharing a tiny glimpse from our incredible journey thus far.
Chopped it off for a new original! Young women, back to university and an opportunity to be ‘notorious’! To early to tell anymore. I am feeling lightheaded…literally! Like it?

Under the weather. Cluttered mind. One of those days when you are so overwhelmed with work that you want to do nothing. On top of that it’s a Monday. Potentially it could be a Sunday if I wanted, but the way the work has piled up, Sundays better look like Mondays.
Today my couch is my work space, lazy space, reflective space. I have been sitting around looking at the happy plants, the unread books, the yellow flowers brought by a dear sister like friend and the ceramic bird that’s staring at me from the corner of her eyes. The hand fans, dhokra figurines, lacquer toys from my father’s collection of crafts quietly give me company…all things have found their own little corner in the living room. The weather is adding to this homey feeling.
What’s your advice to pull myself out and work?

I was most surprised and delighted to receive an email from the Library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (The Oscars!) about wanting the script of Zwigato for their Permanent Core Collection. It is a happy reminder that the film is relevant and glad we made it. I believe only when stories are authentic and rooted in their own contexts, they transcend cultures and borders and become part of world cinema. I am glad that it will be available in the library for students, filmmakers and writers. The overwhelming response that we have got for Zwigato from both audiences and critics has opened unexpected doors such as this. Hope OTT platforms are reading this! I think it’s time to give the audience the opportunity to see Zwigato.
Thank you Library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences for this honour!

Watched Goldfish last night with outstanding performances by @deepti.naval
and @kalkikanmani… a mother-daughter story about memory and more. Sensitive and poignant. Thank you #pushankripalani and producer Amit Saxena.
I was 18 when I first met Deepti di on the sets of Prakash Jha’s Parinati, though she has known Baba for long. She calls Baba da and I call her di!
We worked together in Bawandar as co-actors and I was fortunate enough to direct her in my debut film, Firaaq. But more importantly, we have remained close friends. We have laughed about small things and moaned about the big ones.
Last night was a celebration of her outstanding performance and our friendship. ❤️

Some of us during Covid did several online sessions. It taught us that what you see in the frame is all that matters. Last evening I was in a pair of old jeans and a crumpled T-shirt and I had to quickly do a video message. I needed to look formal and presentable. An old handwoven colourful dupatta did the trick. And the good old horizontal format hid the jeans. Nobody would know!
Oh! But now you do. 🤦🏽♀️😜
Just random musings on my way to my son’s school #sahyadrischool Bliss awaits me.

My blissful time with my son. Close to nature and calm. No honking or phone beeping. Just the bird songs and the cheerful chatter of the children.
Can’t show more as consent of kids and their parents is imperative if they are to be captured. Trees and flowers don’t care if they are photographed or not. No consent needed there. Or so I think. #sahyadrischool #nature

A page that got left out of the Shanghai diary. This was a trip to the Tian zi fang – a quaint market with lots of traditional crafts and weaves. My Japanese sister Kyoko and I. Baba made portraits even there! And we had a tea ceremony with our lovely volunteers. All in all, an afternoon to remember. ❤️
