Fifty-nine years ago today, civil rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer took the stage at the Democratic National Convention and fearlessly asked, “Is This America?”

Fannie’s testimony unveiled the horrors of systemic racism and the brutal violence that she and her fellow Black Americans faced when attempting to exercise their fundamental right to vote.

Fifty-nine years later, the fight for freedom continues.

Today, voter ID laws and other voting restrictions disproportionately impact people of color, making it harder for Black voters to cast a ballot and make their voices heard.

We’re working every single day to dismantle these barriers.

Piper Perabo Instagram – As a result of Hurricane Hilary on the West Coast, heavy rains flushed out an immense amount of pollution from storm drain systems right into our waterways. We encourage you to sign up and volunteer for a beach cleanup with your local chapter. Not only can you help remove trash from our beaches, but you can also help pass plastic reduction laws and policies that prevent pollution in the first place. Reposted from @surfrider but I will put the volunteer link in my bio so join me and sign up.

Hat tip to the awesome @ericbalfour who’s feed I saw this on 🌊♥️
