Today we released our second single, New Order T-Shirt, from the new @thenational album which is coming April 28 on @4ad. When I listen to this song I think about how quickly time passes and how we hold onto to what we can and how accepting the impermanence of everything doesn’t make the memories any less powerful. Also that’s @minatindle singing with Matt:)
@thenational’s new single Eucalyptus is out now from our new album First Two Pages of Frankenstein, out April 28th. I wrote the music for Eucalyptus deep in the pandemic sent it to Matt and then forgot about it. A few years later backstage at one of the last shows of our tour last summer Matt said he had a song he’d been working on to that music but no demo. So we worked it out on stage during soundcheck and played it and recorded it that night @capitoltheatre in Port Chester, NY. The album version is based on that first live recording and a few things we added in the studio after.
Very excited about the two new singles ‘Alphabet City’ and ‘Space Invader’ we released today. These are two of my favorite @thenational songs ever and there are more to come 🙂 The beautiful videos for both songs were made by @minatindle who never ceases to amaze me with her creativity and talent.

So beautiful to be in New York last night for the opening of No Tomorrow, a six screen installation piece I created the music for with our amazing friend Ragnar Kjartansson and choreographed by @maggabjarnadottir for the incredible dancers of @icelanddancecompany. The show is at @luhringaugustine gallery through Christmas if you can go see it!

This is music we have been working on for the last few years with two pianos and two electric guitars and features amazing new compositions written for us by @thomyorke @philipglassmusic as well as music by David and I and @stevereich @meredithmonk @annathorvalds we have a big show on April 23 in NYC@townhallnyc (also our birthday !) The show is also a benefit for @thekitchen_nyc which is one of the oldest and most essential theaters in New York for developing artists in music theater and dance.

@soundsfromasafeharbour, the festival @hicksonmary and I founded almost ten years ago, gets going again this week with so many amazing performances and new collaborations from the extraordinary artists in residence all week in Cork, Ireland. Like eveything Mary sets her heart and mind to, @soundsfromasafeharbour remains one of the most magical experiences of my entire creative life.
