Happy 1st year anniversary. We made it in what seems like record time. I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by. I can’t believe how lucky I am to have you in my life. I can’t believe how stunningly beautiful you looked on that day, and every day. You are my rock, my heart, and really my everything. I don’t know who or where I’d be now if we hadn’t met 7 years ago, and I don’t care. I thank God for you every single day. Happy first year. Here’s to a hundred more.

This is Tim Duffy. It was his day off on September 11, 2001. When he first heard about the attacks, he threw on his gear, hopped on his Motorcycle, and rode into lower Manhattan. Once on the scene he immediately rushed to give aid. Shortly after making his way into the south tower, it collapsed. He was buried under debris, but somehow was able to free himself. Once he’d dug himself out, even then, he was still thinking of others. He made his way back outside the building, commandeered a pick up truck, and made as many trips as he could back-and-forth from the building, saving as many people as he could who had also been injured and trapped from the terrorist attack. He retired due to health issues from breathing in the toxic dust and air, and now works at the organization he founded, helping first responders and veterans suffering from PTSD. • • Photo by Allen Tannenbaum
