Repost from @wsjrealestate • “We feel very relaxed out here. People aren’t calling all the time, and we can take a deep breath.” For the week’s House Call, we visited George and Laura Bush at their Crawford, Texas, ranch, which they visit 8 to 9 times a year. The former president and first lady reflected on growing up with entrepreneurial parents, how they first met (President Bush felt “heart palpitations,” he says) and the stand-alone art studio they built 50 steps from the house. “I paint a couple of hours each day, mostly in the morning,” President Bush says. “Nature helps me think more expansively. We have magnificent wildflower blooms in Crawford and a live oak that I love to paint.” To read the rest, visit the link in @wsjrealestate’s bio. 📸: @trevorpaulhus for @wsj

41 went to heaven two years ago today. Save a striper for me, Dad.
Laura and I are heartbroken by the death of our dear friend, Dr. Edward P. Lazear. The renowned economist and respected Stanford professor had a brilliant mind and a joyful spirit. As Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, Eddie was a trusted confidant who helped guide us out of the financial crisis. He was a beloved colleague at the White House by all who knew him. Most of all, Eddie was a loving husband to Vicki and proud father to Julie. Laura and I send them our heartfelt condolences as they remember the life of a great man. 📷: @paulmorsephoto / @thebushcenter
Laura and I are saddened by the passing of Hank Aaron. The former Home Run King wasn’t handed his throne. He grew up poor and faced racism as he worked to become one of the greatest baseball players of all time. Hank never let the hatred he faced consume him. Henry Louis Aaron was a joyful man, a loving husband to Billye, and a proud father of six children who will deeply miss him. Laura and I send them our condolences and our thanks for sharing this great man with our country.
Remarks at Flight 93 National Memorial
@laurawbush and I were honored to return to the Capitol today for the swearing-in of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala D. Harris. This was the eighth inauguration I’ve had the privilege of attending, and it was an equally beautiful spectacle of democracy. We ask for God’s continued blessings on our country and join our fellow Americans in praying for our leaders.
Repost from @thebushcenter • “We become the heirs of Martin Luther King, Jr., by recognizing one another not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. This means that people of every race, religion, and ethnicity can be fully and equally American. It means that bigotry or white supremacy in any form is blasphemy against the American creed. And it means that the very identity of our nation depends on the passing of civic ideals to the next generation.” –President @georgewbush, 2017 #mlkday
Paying tribute to the brave souls who gave their lives for our freedom at Kennebunkport’s Memorial Day Parade.
Repost @thebushcenter President Bush surprised a group of @smudallas student veterans this morning as the Bush Center celebrates its 10-year anniversary. He expressed his gratitude for the students’ service in the U.S. military — many of whom are at @smudallas through the GI Bill —before taking questions from and photos with them. A decade ago, when the Bush Museum opened to the public, President Bush surprised the first group of students in the Oval Office replica while they were on a field trip. We’re grateful to SMU and the North Texas community for welcoming us and look forward to continuing to be a part of these vibrant communities.

Repost from @_gofurther_ • As we commemorate #WorldAIDSDay, I am proud that the @thebushcenter’s Go Further partnership with @pepfar, @unaidsglobal, and @merck is ensuring women living with HIV have a bright and hopeful future. Today, Go Further announced that PEPFAR has screened more than one million women living with HIV for cervical cancer for the first time through the Go Further partnership.
One of America’s greatest strengths is our ability to absorb people from different backgrounds and cultures into one nation under God. On April 20th, I’ll release OUT OF MANY, ONE – my new book featuring the stories and paintings of immigrants who have contributed to the life and prosperity of our country. As America continues the important discussion about how to fix our outdated immigration system and secure our borders, I hope these stories will remind us that we can be a lawful society and a welcoming society at the same time. #OutofManyOne

@laurawbush and I are grateful to have been vaccinated against covid-19. These safe and effective vaccines are our way out of this pandemic and toward recovery and renewal. So when it’s your turn, roll up your sleeve and do your part.

Repost @thebushcenter Today, the George W. Bush Presidential Center and 12 other presidential foundations and centers have issued a joint statement as a reminder of what makes the United States a great nation; our ideals rooted in freedom and democracy. “The unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, as stated in the Declaration of Independence, are principles that bind us together as Americans. They have enabled the United States to strive toward a more perfect union, even when we have not always lived up to those ideals….” Visit the link in our bio to read the full statement, share it, and have a conversation.
