A morning treat to visit Tarragona’s breathtaking 2,000-year-old Roman Aqueduct, known locally as El Pont del Diable (The Devil’s Bridge). This perfectly preserved piece of ancient Roman history is a wonderful example of the Romans understanding of engineering and their incredible capabilities in building.
This aqueduct supplied fresh, clean water for baths, fountains, and drinking water.
Built to perfection, with every detail considered.

I popped into Straffan Antiques, a family run business with over three decades of experience, established in 1988 by John and Marie Ryan. Marie’s Antiques & Pianos traded for 16 years in the centre of Clane, Co. Kildare. They then moved to the historic farm buildings of Barberstown House in Straffan.
Since the move, Straffan Design and the Victorian Tea Rooms have also been established. The businesses have evolved into four main areas: antiques, pianos, design (fashion, home and giftware) and the tea rooms, each run by members of the Ryan family. The businesses complement each other and make the 18th century courtyard the ideal destination for shopping and casual dining. I’ll share the antiques soon! If your in Kildare well worth a visit. Congratulations on your 35th year in business. 👏

I had a fantastic day exploring @belvederehousegardensandpark The story behind the jealous wall; Robert Rochfort, the first Earl of Belvedere, became known as the Wicked Earl. His brother George built nearby Tudenham House (then called Rochfort House), but its back was facing Belvedere. This infuriated the Earl, who promptly built this structure to block his view.
Designed by Thomas Wright to look like a ruin, after nearly 300 years it is still standing.
When a 10m section collapsed in 1991 the wall was found to have shallow foundations, so work was done to strengthen and protect it.
It remains the largest folly in Ireland.

This sculpture is on St Brigid’s Cathedral which stands on the site where Saint Brigid founded a nunnery in the 5th century. This County Kildare cathedral was rebuilt in the 19th century and houses many fascinating, religious artefacts.
I have visited often to hear my Uncle Eric
sing in the choir.
St Brigid’s Cathedral is in Kildare Town and was built by the Norman Bishop Ralph of Bristol in 1223. The entire site is steeped in important religious history; it’s believed to be the location at which Saint Brigid, one of Ireland’s patron saints, founded a nunnery in the 5th century.
The present cathedral, which was restored in the 19th century, contains many links to the past, including a 16th-century vault, early Christian and Norman carvings and a High Cross. The Gothic-style architecture reflects the structure’s dual purpose as both a place of defence and of religious worship.
Also on the grounds is a 12th century round tower that extends 33m toward the sky, making it the second highest in Ireland. A great place to climb for the most rewarding view, when I was young.
Constructed from Wicklow granite and local limestone, this historic tower is open to visitors during the summer months.
Similar stunning views can be taken in from the roof, for visitors daring enough to climb that high.
Visit St Brigid’s Cathedral in Kildare Town to discover an important slice of Irish religious history and enjoy the panoramic views from one of Ireland’s most impressive round towers & see if you can spot me! 😉
