This has been on my mind a lot lately as people are already beginning to get sick. In an ideal world of course people would not need to be out in the streets literally FIGHTING for their lives and rights during a pandemic, but this is not an ideal world. Black populations were already facing a disproportionate level of Covid deaths due to long standing social and economic inequities, but how can we expect them to NOT react to the racist violence that is prevalent in every part of America. This country and its deeply problematic financial priorities have put these people between a rock and a hard place and I’m proud of and inspired by the people who have not let that deter them. There are resources for donating to Covid relief in the link in my bio, but many of the bail and BLM organizations I’ve already advertised are using their money to try and help people who may get sick by keeping them supported and out of jail. I don’t personally know anyone that works harder than my sister. This entire time, she’s been at her hospital and at her clinics delivering babies and helping people and advocating for women, sometimes days at a time without rest. She never had the option to stay home, and if she had I don’t think she would have done anything differently. I am so so proud of her and this recognition of her work (and the risks she takes to do that work) makes me happy and hopeful. In honor of her and her selflessness: wear a mask, stop going to parties because you think someone will be there to save you if it goes wrong, and stop acting like you know more about vaccines than the medical professionals that need them to do their life saving work. Happy Holidays 🖤
