I only have a few memories of my mother, but I came across her diaries a while ago, and it’s been a true gift to discover more about her interior life, her feelings and thoughts through her personal writings. In my personal words I just “…want you to know after all these years The highs and the lows, all the joys and tears Your love still weighs and I’ll find my way to get you flowers on Mother’s Day” To all you wonderful women out there : blessed Mother’s Day! Love and honour to all you strong Mamas, as well as to those who have lost their Mom or never got to know her. Love and honour also goes out to those who have lost children, or can not experience motherhood for whatever reason. You are precious! Long before artists like George Michael and Prince stood up for the control over their music and ownership of their rights against unjust standards in the music industry, my father founded a Record Company and we were amongst the very first Music Artists to be registered at IFPI with our own Label. He fought for artistic freedom and was often misunderstood in the show business and media, simply because he was different. But he was a fearless man who didn’t care about the opinion of others. I remember the moment when my Father told me, “Keep your spirit free!” like if it was yesterday. Those words had weight because he lived them in many ways. Like every human being, he also had weaknesses and failures, but on this Father’s Day, I want to thank him in particular for having given me the spirit of freedom and fearlessness. His heart for those in need and quick hand to help, certainly shaped part of my response-ability. But the greatest lesson he taught me as a Father was in the humble and courageous way he faced death. “Father, father, father Oh, I love you with all my heart You’ve done an amazing part All the angels did come when you were ready to depart.” I also want to honor all the “father figures” who accompanied me through life. Thank you for your goodness and guidance, for teaching by your example, for your protection and provision, and every word of encouragement! MPK #FathersDay
