In this house
lives doubt- questioning all.
Hopeless, scarred and down,
occupying three bedrooms.
Inspiration maintains the lawn,
but is never allowed inside-
its residents laugh
from the door and windows.
Painful memories
paces the master bedroom;
moaning/anguished throughout the night.
Soaking in the tub-
scabs floating in the bloody water
candles burnt out
a cacophony of a broken accordion.
Sadness-
in all its melancholic glory
lurks around the basement.
The door of this house
always open to me
beckoning me in
to live•to visit•to rest
I mow the lawn
all around it.
These days-
just an ice tea from the kitchen
or a cat nap on the couch
refusing to long term it-
maybe a night or two
but the strength•resilience
to run the fuck out
whenever I feel myself
getting cozy in a room
in the house
is the hospitality I prefer today.

I’ve heard
too many stories
from others
experienced enough
personally-
time after time
this idea/notion
of honesty/full transparency
that is encouraged
during ANY toxic
or otherwise shitty behavior.
All too often,
the one speaking up and out
is the one judged
looks like the trouble.
It has been
continues to be
met negatively a lot;
that honesty of calling others out
for their shitty behavior
has this boomerang effect
for the caller-out
the one hit in the head.
Let’s not kid ourselves
stepping outside the box
to reveal these truths
only applies to keeping it
within that box
that is “acceptable”
to the others.
