My brother & I took these of each other during a recent & aggressive summer rainstorm neither of us were prepared for.
The 1st & 3rd were taken on film.
The 2nd & 4th, taken on this tiny handheld computer we all use every day.
And while the first you can only see half my face and the exposure isn’t quite right, and the third, he’s blurry and out of focus… I prefer both the film ones to the digital ones.
Maybe that’s the unpopular opinion today.
And yes, I still take a zillion photos on my iPhone. But I took comparison photos just to see them side by side and it proved, if I had to choose:
Film>digital any day.
I’m saddened but not surprised that those with financial power would disrespect the artists that help them get there.
Shocking, I wrote something too long for a caption.
Read it or don’t, agree or don’t, but greed disgusts me and I’m proud to be an artist standing by my community of writers & now actors.
This is one of my first headshots from when I was 12.
(Don’t ask me what that hat and necklace choice was… it was 2003. We aren’t hear to discuss it but it’s called fashun. There’s another vogue worthy lewk in the last slide if you make it that far and it’s my current pissed off expression.)
❤️

Conor FaceTimed me last night so she could lip sync “Lady in Red”. It’s a cheese of a song but it has its right moments… now if you’ll excuse me I’ll be having this on repeat.
It’s raining outside.

film grain makes the memories captured feel soft.
And remaining soft is an important and sometimes difficult thing in this world.
have a gentle monday everyone 🤍

Getting out of NYC is really great in the summer. There’s a reason people do it and I’ve been that person before.
This summer I stayed. And instead of being bummed I wasn’t in Positano eating pasta by the beach, I decided to pretend NYC was the destination and fill it up with some yummy memories.
10 small moments out of the 10,000 moments (important to remember and remind: social media is full of tiny fractions of moments) I had during what I named this album “August at Home”.
Not necessarily in any specific order:
1. These days
2. I cook more, and always with lots of garlic.
3. Discovered things like… adorable baby grape sized cucumbers that look like mini watermelons from the farmers market? In a cup I bought from the sweetest shop in Paris this past spring, @boleslove_paris
4. And museums in Queens like the quiet oasis that is the @noguchimuseum .
5. Got distracted & lost in the wood staining of yet another DIY project when my library shuffle reminded me of one of @lilykershaw ‘s old songs. Go check her out, I like promoting really talented but also good people✨
6. Sidewalk Reminders at midnight as July 31st turned into August 1st
7. And book reminders to get out of your own way.
8. Reflective Afternoons of pause
9. Mirror reflections somewhere in Brooklyn questioning if I’ve actually retained the reminders of 6&7
10. And when in doubt of all of it, finding places: to dance.

The temptation to add the song “Blue Moon” to this video of the “Super Blue Moon” tonight is obviously tempting.
But.
To be able to hear the wind (which was almost too epically on brand for a full moon energy tonight), the people laughing, crickets, and dogs barking in the New York City background… is a gift. And it felt weirdly disrespectful to edit it.
It’s silly enough that we try to capture the moon on our phones, but here we are and here I am too, still in awe from a far.
Goodnight

No one will see this because it’s what instagram (and maybe some people) consider “basic”.
Not “engagement worthy”.
But the crazier this internet gets the more I wanna just post photos of my dogs, flowers, trees, bees -and airplanes crossing my view of the sky while I was lying on my back in the sand, on a beach in June.
Ya know. All the little “basic” stuff we’d all miss if it was gone.
I almost added music to this, but then instagram (as if to say “this is too basic”, *suggested* “explore audio! Tap to browse!”
So now, just to make a point, I’m leaving it as is.
Just waves & wind 🤍
*this post will most likely be followed by something super “extra” cuz we gotta continue on being the walking contradiction I am / we are 🤸🏻♀️
