In Sept 2023, I had the privilege of joining 23 complete strangers to travel 282 miles of the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. We were an impressive group of environmentalists, humanitarians, artists and indigenous leaders from land based cultures and then me! (your local friendly neighborhood class clown)
Endless and massive thanks to @tilliewaltonofficial and @nash2o for organizing our wild bunch all of whom walked away best friends and bursting with new goals/ideas of how to work together across our different sectors of knowledge. It’s impossible to truly comprehend this trip, to relay it to my friends and family or to fully encompass how filled up I feel after being so deeply connected to nature off grid in the most remote part of the US for 8 days. I can’t imagine a world without this natural wonder that brings life to so many and whose existence is constantly threatened.
The Colorado River supports 40 million people, 30 tribal nations, 7 U.S. states and Mexico, and a $1.4 trillion annual economy. We must rethink how we use and manage this critical waterway. @AmericanRivers is an excellent resource for this work. Everyone should have the opportunity to visit this sacred place, I feel forever changed. Buckle in for many more posts about this adventure…
Huge specific thank you to my very supportive fiancé who said “8 days no contact backpacking down a river with two dozen strangers? you should absolutely do that, yes.” thank you for letting me stay wild. and @dr.nate.dogg who submitted my name with love and let the rest unfold for itself.
