A message from Jason Momoa on whaling in Iceland. Aquaman himself 🧜♂️, our partner, friend and great supporter of whales 🐋 (petition in bio): Hello everybody, I’ve something very important I want to share, it’s happening right now in Iceland. This year, Iceland made a brave decision on June 2th to suspend whaling for the summer, based on animal welfare concerns. Whales were hunted with explosive harpoons, some suffering up to two hours before dying. Two thirds were female and a number were pregnant. The Icelandic government is now deciding whether they can extend the ban into September for the rest of the hunting season. I want to encourage Iceland to maintain the ban on whaling, and to end whaling for good. And I support the Icelandic people who are fighting for healthy oceans and for the whales. Lets celebrate these beautiful creatures and be on the right side of history. All my love, all my aloha. Whales matter. The ocean matters. Please help me. We dont need to be hunting whales. Please sign the petition in @herahilmar bio. And please write to @svandissvavarsdottir , Icelandic minister of food, agriculture and fisheries, and ask her to make the brave decision to stop it for good ✊ Aloha, J 🐋
The Whale Eye of the Storm 🐋 Iceland has just decided, by minister @svandissvavarsdottir, to start whaling again. The quota this year is 209 fin whales. Today the ships were allowed to leave harbour, but the elements have spoken and a storm will keep them at bay till Monday. Right now the film industry fights the whaling industry, that is jeopardising our country’s income of at least 100-200 million dollars each year from foreign projects alone. The whaling industry, that is run at a loss each year (at least to the tax books), and at a loss for our reputation as a country. On the 21st of August we accompanied @peggy_oki to @svandissvavarsdottir office (Svandis was away so we met an assistant), the office of @gudlaugurthor Minister of Environment (Gudlaugur was away so we met an assistant), to the Prime Minister’s @katrinjakobsd office (they had closed) and the Icelandic Parliament (where we met MP of the Pirate party @halldoramogensen), where she handed them the 161 origami fin whale curtain in support of the fin whales Iceland is now about to kill (and the 161 killed last season) When we left the parliament this whale eye in the sky was there, looking at us. No storm that day in sight. No wind. Just this image in the sky. Let’s all remember this isn’t over yet 🐋 Petitions against whaling in Iceland in my bio @herahilmar

Message on whaling in Iceland by Bubbi Morthens / Skilaboð frá Bubba Morthens um hvalveiðar Íslands: Compassion, empathy, love. Kærleikur, samúð, samkennd. @svandissvavarsdottir
Jane Campion, director of The Piano and Bright Star, has signed a letter, among other international film makers, stating they support the Icelandic people and will not be bringing film projects to Iceland unless the Icelandic parliament listens to the majority of the Icelandic nation and ends whaling for good.
