Murphy Instagram – Haters gonna hate: Going viral with this dance 💃 video gave me a wake-up call ☎️ I share a lot here on IG, but I wasn’t really prepared for millions of “new friends” to watch, like and comment on my questionable dance moves. 🪩 No arguments here: I’m more Elaine from Seinfeld than Beyoncé back-up dancer. Even though there were literally thousands of positive, encouraging, happy comments, I found myself fixated on hateful garbage like this: “So cringe to watch these old, wrinkled women try to become influencers like young women. Clear case of Histrionic personality disorder.” I couldn’t see YOU, my amazing supporters cheering me on. All I could see was “cringe,” “old wrinkled woman,” “personality disorder.” It was time to reach into my Fully Charged toolkit (and maybe book an appointment with @face_aesthetic_artistry 🤣) Here’s the not-so-stinking thinking that helped me get over it: 🤕 Own the Ouch: Yup, I was affected by the nasties and that’s OK. Acknowledging those feelings without judgement is the first step. 🚨Play Empathy Police: Cringe? Hmm…Who over the age of 13 uses that word?! GOTCHA: This is actually a teenager threatened by my unabashed grown-up confidence. She’s longing for her own Nora days when she could dance like no one was watching. Now I just feel sorry for this poor kid and all of the other energy vampires with nothing better to do than spew hate. They need hugs and dance parties. 💡Learn from the Situation: I totally had to Google Histrionic Personality Disorder. Thanks to this hater, I now know that it’s one of a group of conditions called “Cluster B” or “dramatic” personality disorders characterized by intense, unstable emotions and distorted self-images. #knowledgeispower 😜 📵And finally, MUTE, BLOCK, DELETE… You have a right and an obligation to protect your energy on social media and in real life.
