@azmishabana18 Janamdin Mubarak! All good wishes and dher saara pyaar coming your way.
I so cherish the times we have spent together over the last 27 years – on and off camera, fun and difficult ones. And here is to many more…❤️
Watched Goldfish last night with outstanding performances by @deepti.naval
and @kalkikanmani… a mother-daughter story about memory and more. Sensitive and poignant. Thank you #pushankripalani and producer Amit Saxena.
I was 18 when I first met Deepti di on the sets of Prakash Jha’s Parinati, though she has known Baba for long. She calls Baba da and I call her di!
We worked together in Bawandar as co-actors and I was fortunate enough to direct her in my debut film, Firaaq. But more importantly, we have remained close friends. We have laughed about small things and moaned about the big ones.
Last night was a celebration of her outstanding performance and our friendship. ❤️
Sharing a few I was sent of last night…

Was beyond happy to meet Shyam babu, as many of us respectfully and affectionately call him. He looked more frail than I had last seen him, but his spirit remains indomitable as ever. I could listen to him for hours. #shyambenegal has been a mentor to so many of us. His stories are lessons in life and cinema.
The occasion was my dear friend Anuradha Parikh’s b’day at the lovely @g5afoundation . Was lovely to meet so many wonderful friends including @azmishabana18 , @jaduakhtar and Shyam Babu’s daughter and costume designer Piya. So glad we managed to get a photo together. Memories…

The video was minutes after the first photo. The birds had to be seen flying and the horizon was magical in its hues of red. Just as you never step into the same river, you never see the same sky twice. Blessed to have a window that reminds me of that every day. We too change all the time. Only if we could pause to realise that.

A typical morning at Baba’s. Sun shines, plants greet and the newspaper is read, cover to cover.
A compulsive collector of all things that fascinate him. And they all find their space at home. Nothing is ever placed, arranged or decorated. Not even this random cloth that’s hanging on a basket in the middle of the room!

Here is wishing you the happiest birthday @deepamehtaofficial . From 1995 when we first met, to this day… so many memories. Time to share and hear more. Have a super duper day my friend and my director.
Spent two lovely evenings at @indianaccentmumbai – delicious food, art deco ambience and warm hospitality. Thank you Rohit Khattar for this experience.

To continue the story of hanging baskets, here is the living room. With some of my favourite people who I grew up with. Over the years, my father’s friends have become mine too. 🥰

Spent the better part of the day at Jatin Das’s studio where the octogenarian artist is overseeing the vast and complex operation that a career retrospective at NGMA involves. Managed a peek at some of his works, the restoration under process for very early paintings, his orderly and organised filing systems…a life in art spread out around him on canvas and paper, in terracotta and metal.
Listened to him recite one of his own poems on the infiniteness of the ‘line’. Got ticked off, of course, for not staying in regular touch, heard some lovely stories about other artists, absent and present. Wound up with a great ghar-wala meal.
A day well spent?
