Cat Stevens Instagram – Before the Declaration of Human Rights came the 10 Commandments
The noble 10 Commandments I learned in primary school were engraved on my young heart; a reminder of what it means to be ‘good‘. The laws tell us what we need to know to make us civilised, they were not just meant to be a privy endowment for the Children of Israel, but for ALL People. Being good to your neighbour means exactly that—equal consideration for all.
Looking at the horror of what’s happening now in the land once called ‘Holy’, it seems a new assault is about to be unleashed; ‘collective punishment’, a shameless war crime and potential genocide. How is that possible, from a group of people, who were historically the victims of such atrocities themselves?
“(Oh Children of Israel) do you enjoin righteousness upon humanity and forget to observe it yourselves? Have you no sense?”
