I’m notoriously bad at stopping and smelling the roses so I’m putting this here to remind myself. This will be my final post for 2023 so I can go away to work on finishing orchestration and credit sequence for ‘What If The Future Never Happened?’. I’m shutting my socials down, putting my phone in a drawer and getting back to work. FutureNever was the most gratifying creative experience of my career, it was gratifying because of YOU all. I’ve never felt more connected to the people who have supported the podcast, the album and the exhibition. ‘What If The Future Never Happened?’ is coming in early 2024, I’m disappearing into the studio now to finalise the orchestration. In pretty big personal news, I’ve just signed the most important songwriting deal of my career with BMG, including all of my songs from ‘Frogstomp’ to ‘FutureNever’ and everything in between. The team @bmgausnz also just came up to my house and presented me with this wild plaque celebrating FutureNever being announced as ARIA’s highest selling new Australian Album of 2022, spending 7 weeks in the Top 10 (and 2 weeks at #11 😂) and going #1 twice. I don’t really hang plaques in my house but I’m hanging this one in my living room because it’s a reminder of the love from you all and it means more than you’ll ever know. It also lights up. Although it’s a solo album, FutureNever had many collaborative elements and I’ve been sharing the @aria_official trophies presented to my dear friends who helped create FN. Thank you to @eddiezammit @allaboutgraphics BMG and @rialtomelbourne – because in mind blowing news ‘Past, Present and FutureNever’ has won 2 awards at the FESPA’s in Munich @fespagram – beating out the FIFA World Cup for the coveted ‘Best In Show’ Award. Thank you also to @spotifyaunz for this epic plaque commemorating the global success of ‘Who Is Daniel Johns?’. Thank you to the @australianpodcastawards for the ‘Spotlight Award’. Thank you to @ausindies for awarding FutureNever Best Pop Album in 2023. I’m loving being a truly independent artist making everything on my own terms. Love you, I’ll find you in the NeverAfter 💕

Beavis and Butt-head…and me? Nobody understands global 90’s teenage fame like Beavis and Butt-head. As silverchair began to blow up in the US, I was obsessed with Beavis and Butt-head. A career highlight was when they absolutely roasted my haircut and music while watching the Tomorrow video- in retrospect I think I deserved it. Beavis and Butt-head felt like school friends to me. In the 90’s I’d religiously watch VHS tapes I’d brought back from US tours I’d done with silverchair. I didn’t leave the house much so sometimes they were the only company I had. To be chilling with them, jamming to Israel’s Son and having a good laugh in the FutureNever is as good as any therapist’s couch. This isn’t the 60’s dillhole, welcome to FutureNever! When my anxiety did not allow me perform live any longer, I was told by many senior people in the industry that my career was over. I refused to accept that that was my reality, so I built my own ecosystem with my visionary friends @bmgausnz To be here today, with the exhibition doing so well that @rialtomelbourne has extended the run and sitting on a record that has not only become my first #1 solo record but also the longest charting Australian @aria_official Top 10 of 2022 is ALL thanks to you guys. Some days I feel incredible, others I feel helpless and scared. I know many of us struggle with our mental health. Recovery is a journey not a destination. October is Mental Health Month and while investigating Not-For-Profit organisations for FutureNeverFund to work with, I came across an inspiring Newcastle based group called @equienergyyouth At many times in my childhood through to now, I’ve experienced major panic attacks and multiple other mental health issues. This incredible team of people led by Dr Stephen Spencer have created a revolutionary Psychological First Aid system called TAR3 that provides a framework for people to use if a young person in their life is experiencing a mental health crisis. I asked Dr Stephen Spencer what the primary mission was for EquiEnergy Youth and he said the priority was to spread awareness about the TAR3 protocol. So instead of working on any sort of IG algorithm pleasing graphic, I wanted to start off by sharing this video of Dr Stephen explaining the system, I will post a link to the full video in my story, please watch if you have 10 minutes spare.
