Gilbert Gottfried was known for his comedy, but few people knew that he was also a very talented visual artist. Inspired by his passing in 2022, his daughter Lily Gottfried, 15, made a documentary short about his hidden talent.

A new fan of the podcast asked how it started. I replied to his post, but thought others might be interested too, so sharing here… Gilbert Gottfried had lost Aflac. I wanted him to update his act since I thought he needed to rely more on live appearances now that he lost that big gig. His act was old. I knew Frank Santopadre and thought maybe he could work with Gilbert to update his act. I arranged for them to speak on the phone. Instead of working on his act, they talked about old Hollywood. I realized how much joy it brought Gil and how impressive the conversations were, so I said they should do something with it. I was working with Gotham Comedy Club at the time producing benefits for our elementary school. I told the owner my idea of turning the conversations into a podcast and he put me in touch with a podcast network who’s rep happened to be coming to NYC the next day. I met with him and decided we would give it a try. I was a huge fan of Professor Irwin Corey and had recently been visiting him at his house, so I set him up to be the first interview. Eight years later and over 450 interviews, the rest is history. That’s how it started.
