Seymour gave me hope as a teen that there were good hearted caring people in the music business. I was blessed to have had him as an example of “the artists” champion as my entry into the business.
No other human is more responsible for my love of music than this man.
He signed to his Sire records depeche mode, the smiths, the cure, talking heads, the ramones, soft cell, yaz, echo and the bunnymen, talking heads etc etc
Basically the majority of my music listening and music inspiration from 12 years old to today. It’s unimaginable how he signed all my favorite artists what is not unimaginable and very understandable is that they all picked him to sign with.
He also signed my early supporter Ice T and my brother Bronx Style Bob which is how I first met Seymour at the age of 17.
The most successful artist he signed in his career happens to be the most impactful human in my life : MADONNA. Seymour helped with the launch of Maverick Records. Which helped launch me.
Its where I started, made mistakes , learned, grew and thankfully succeeded over the following 16 years.
Today I still rock the Maverick brand in much of what I do. An homage to where It all began for me..
Seymour was always very supportive and caring to me. He made sure to let me know he was proud of me all the time!!
He was a walking encyclopedia on early music songwriters He could name any classic tune and had this very sweet voice when he would sing them to you.
He lead everything he did with his heart. For all of his genius and incredible success he did not amass financial wealth like many of his peers.
That wasn’t his focus. He paid all his attention to the music, not to his personal finances.
What he did amass was love. Anyone that was lucky to know seymour loved him. I loved him and always will. Seymour, thank you for everything you have done for me.
I will never forget you.
Seymour and I also shared our bond for our jewish roots. He could recite and sing many of the prayers.
