Another NY Toy Fair almost in the books.
My good friend Gerrick Johnson visited our Jazwares NY Toy Fair exhibit – with a big surprise! He claimed that as a teenager he had broken many of the pack algorithms. Ok to be fair the cards were packed consecutively so many of you also already know this! But somehow I’ve ever forgotten or never knew! Watch us break a pack to reveal exactly who Gerrick was looking for!

Fascinating watching back to back auctions on Heritage Auctions today. The same card in consecutive auctions.
1999 Unlimited Charizard:
* Lot 36073 PSA 10 – $11,250
* Lot 36074 CGC 10 – $3,375
What’s telling is that it’s the same pool of bidders. These auctions were consecutive.
In addition, there appears to be a CGC 10 premium versus PSA 9. The PSA 9 1999 Unlimited Charizard sells for approximately $1,200. So it appears that the CGC 10 would be roughly the equivalent to a PSA 9.5 (if that existed).
PSA 10 – $11,250
CGC 10 – $3,375
PSA 9 – $1,200
Fascinating stuff! Would be interesting to see if this 3 – 3.5X premium is true across the board for PSA 10 vs CGC 10… and for CGC 10 vs PSA 9.

Watching latest Heritage Auctions of non-sports / TCG. A CGC 10 on vintage is yielding more like a PSA 9+ sales results in my opinion. I haven’t studied new cards, just vintage where there is a mostly known universe of graded cards – and few new vintage entries on any singular card compared to the total graded…
For instance:
– A recent Heritage Auction on a CGC 10 1st edition Charizard sold for about $50k. A PSA 10 sells for $175-225k.
– A PSA 9 sells for $22.5-27.5k. All approximations.
– In the last 5 years just a few new PSA 10 1st edition Charizards have been graded. Approximately pop 120 as of 5 years ago and just a few more today.
– There are also approx 1,000 PSA 9’s (estimate not looking as I type this).
– Therefore, The benefit of breaking a PSA 9 for a new grading system where you achieve a 10 becomes the delta between $50k CGC 10 and $25k PSA 9.
– So there is real value. But, it doesn’t seem on vintage cards that there is an acceptance that it’s an equivalent value to the PSA 10.
Please note this is opinion and not based on a scientific fact. It’s based on my studying the market. I’m curious if you’re findings are the same on vintage – where the pool is relatively known.

Thoughts?
I know you’re probably feeling the world right now. I am. I’m at the airport. Just visited my parents. Waiting to go through the metal detector the person in front of me abruptly had to turn around. It caused the person behind me to run into me. I felt a level of unusual rage. It was fleeting, but palpable. I mean I really felt it. It was maybe less than a third of a second. I heard an older voice behind me say – “I’m sorry.” I turned around. It was an old man. I felt some level of shame as I turned around to apprise the situation. I replied, “it’s ok.” If given a redo, I would have asked him how he is doing. A missed opportunity.
Right now we owe each other grace. Especially now. We’re inundated with global events with visual stimulation that is unprecedented. We all belong to something. We all have our own ideologies. We all each have only our singular life. And, all of us are inundated.
I wish you patience, kindness and grace right now. The person in the car next to you in a heated argument on their cell phone who looks at you the wrong way at a stoplight… The colleague at work who hurriedly heads to their office only to close the door in the morning… Your child or younger sister or brother who is recognizing the world isn’t as idealistic as they might have believed…. Give grace right now. A smile. A simple gesture. A moment of softness. The benefit of the doubt. 97 out of 100 times you’ll be right. The other 3, just keep your eyes open. Not blind trust. Just trust.

There are no guarantees in life. Resilience might be the most important of the 3. When you can continually bounce back from challenging circumstances, do it with intensity and determination AND maybe a little differently than other people (ingenuity), the odds are favorable!
