Macklemore Instagram – This tour I have fallen back in love with American venues. I had forgotten. They are sacred spaces that hold energy, stories, secrets, sweat, stained walls, beer riddled floors and stages that have been graced by giants who have come and gone. They are a gathering mecca for the medicine that is music and the magic that occurs in community. Speakers strapped to the ceiling over the heads of humans pressed up against each other screaming the words in unison. It has been life affirming to reconnect to this love. And when I think of venues in America one of my all time favorites is The Rave/Eagles Club in Milwaukee. It is perfect. In stature it is a 200,000 sq ft labyrinth, woven in tapestry’s, hidden hallways, lava lamps, a swimming pool, basketball court, an old bowling alley that was converted to a smaller venue and of course the main room. There is no air conditioning. It is way too hot. It is a place where performers will be tested as will the audience, and I revel in the challenge. The venue is almost 100 years old and is independently owned. Every time I play there I look forward to hearing stories from the owner Leslie who refuses to sell the place to the bigger companies that have attempted to buy it. She is a legend, a friend and a magnificent tour guide of the sprawling oasis. The swimming pool is decorated in graffiti from all the musicians that have stepped foot on this holy ground. I feel my brother Mac’s spirit in this space, as his eerily beautiful words sit beneath the 25 marker of the pool. It is truly a 1 of 1 and makes me proud that my fingerprints are part of its linage. This show marked my 3rd time there and also my 3rd time selling it out. We gave it 100% as always…It just means something more in Milwaukee ❤️ Milwaukee, Wisconsin | Posted on 02/Oct/2023 21:30:00
