After nearly a year as Prime Minister, I’ve learnt that the political system incentivises the easy decision, not always the right one.
At @conservatives Party Conference this week, we’ll show that can change.
And we’ll do it by taking long-term decisions for a brighter future. Manchester, United Kingdom
Such a good start to the day.
After announcing a new plan for towns in Manchester, we hopped over to Burnley to chat with families who’ll actually see the benefit of that announcement.
We need to change our economic geography – away from cities.
That work started today.

Investing £36bn in better transport across the country.
Creating a smoke-free generation.
Improving education with the Advanced British Standard.
Today we made long-term decisions for a brighter future.
And on the biggest stages, making the biggest announcements, it was so good to have my biggest supporter by my side.
@akshatamurty_official blew me away with her speech – a total surprise and great way to end conference. Manchester, United Kingdom

Levelling up is about building stronger communities, safer streets and investing in local areas to drive growth and create jobs.
It’s about making people feel enormous pride in the places they call home.
That’s exactly what our Community Ownership Fund does. It gives local communities the opportunity to restore and repair the places that mean so much to them.
We’ve invested nearly £50 million in 195 projects across the UK through this fund which includes almost £8 million for 33 pubs and £14.6 million for 66 community centres.
From theatres to sports clubs, today we’ve announced another 45 projects right across the UK – creating jobs and growing the economy. Broxbourne

Today I travelled to @writtleuniversitycollege to meet students who work in our farming sector.
I’ve been talking to them about the changes I announced yesterday, ensuring that we’re on track to deliver Net Zero by 2050 while easing the burden on working families, bringing people along with us and hitting world leading targets.
This is particularly important for families in rural and farming communities who are facing huge costs and are the backbone of their local economies.
I’m going to make big decisions in the long-term interests of our country, even if they’re difficult.
That’s how we’ll deliver change and build a better future for our children.

It was a privilege to attend @thesun’s Who Cares Wins Awards tonight, celebrating our amazing healthcare heroes.
The dedication you bring to saving lives and caring for others every day, often on the frontline, is truly inspirational.
Thank you for all that you do.

This country is proud to be a world leader in reaching Net Zero by 2050.
But we won’t achieve it unless we change the debate. So we’re going to have a better, more honest conversation about how we get there.
Today we set out a new approach to meeting Net Zero which will ease the burden on working people.
That means:
🚗 Extending the deadline on the ban of petrol and diesel cars
⚡️ Giving people far more time to make the transition to heat pumps
🥩 Stopping proposals to tax meat and other heavy-handed measures
Our new approach to reaching Net Zero by 2050 also means:
✅ Lifting the ban on onshore wind
✅ New carbon capture storage
✅ Funding for Sizewell C
✅ New small modular reactors
