I am presenting an informative summary and the latest updates on my upcoming feature film, Elpis (2023):
Elpis debuted at the International Documentary Film Festival DokuBaku in Baku, Azerbaijan. Subsequently, it was selected to be part of the official competition programs of the 19th edition of the Festival Transterritorial de Cine Underground (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Flight / Mostra Internazionale del Cinema di Genova Film Festival (Italy), and the 7th Berlin Revolution Film Festival. I had the privilege of attending and presenting the film at all of these screenings, with the exception of Argentina, where it was well-received by the audience. This was particularly gratifying as Elpis represents an entirely new artistic direction compared to my previous works.
I am delighted that Elpis has been honoured with the Best Feature Film Award in the ‘Student Jury’ category at the Flight / Mostra Internazionale del Cinema di Genova. This recognition humbles me greatly.
Furthermore, Elpis has garnered praise from international film critics and cinephiles, with three reviews:
“This is the agony at the heart of Rashidi’s art.” – Cristina Álvarez López and Adrian Martin.
“Elpis is a technically polished and aesthetically magnificent proof…” – Nikola Gocić.
“Elpis is Rashidi’s most personal piece to date.” – Nadin Mai (The Art(s) of Slow Cinema).

Last night, I had the privilege of presenting my latest film, ELPIS, at the Berlin Revolution Film Festival’s screening at Kino Moviemento. It was an incredible experience to have my loved ones, including dear friends and family, attend the event. The warm reception from the organizers made this German premiere genuinely exceptional. I want to express my gratitude to the audience for their presence, contributing to the unique atmosphere of the screening. I would also like to thank Andrija Jovanovic for the opportunity and the wonderful hospitality extended to me. My appreciation knows no bounds for my exceptional cast, Elika Ostrov and Claudia Basrawi, who accompanied me throughout the entire filmmaking journey. I would also like to acknowledge the Arts Council of Ireland for their support in making this project a reality. Stay tuned for more updates on upcoming screenings. Exciting things are ahead!

A photo capturing the artistic connection between my brother, Wasim, and me in Berlin. Amidst the chaos and hostility of the world, we have planned to embark on an artistic journey together. Throughout my life, I have always pursued my passions despite the vulgarities of the outside world, through my films and collaborations. Artists thrive because the world is imperfect; art would serve no purpose if the world were flawless. Stay tuned for exciting updates!

We extend our sincere gratitude to all those who attended the Experimental Film Society screenings as part of the Cinematic Synesthesia of the Tehran Contemporary Sounds at Kino Central. One screening was completely sold out, and the other had a nearly full house. The audience’s passion and active participation during the question-and-answer sessions added energy and excitement to the screenings. We would like to express our thanks to the talented filmmakers and artists who entrusted us with their magnificent works: Yasaman Pishvaei, Nazgol Kashani, Johnny Clyde, Wasim Ghrioui, Anahita Safarnejad, and Atoosa Pour Hosseini. It has been an exceptional series of events.
I, personally, would also like to express my eternal gratitude to Janna Heiss and Behrooz Moosavi, the founders and curators of Tehran Contemporary Sounds. Collaborating with them over the past few weeks has been a pleasure and an honour. Working with them stood out because they were willing to experiment and take risks in uncharted territories. Collaborations like these make all the effort worthwhile. We would also like to thank the backers and supporters of our project “Goethe-Institut im Exil” and “Kino Central” for their generous support.
Tehran Contemporary Sounds will continue in Berlin over the weekend, featuring a fantastic lineup of musicians. If you are in town, be sure to attend. Onwards!
