Two decades ago today, we stood on the rugged and wild cliff-edge of the Sea Ranch Lodge to get married. The sky was exquisitely blue, the temperature a typical Northern Cali October brisk. Friends and family surrounded us, and we said things no one else could hear because the wind carried them out to the sea. Then we had the best party we’ve (still!) ever been to—though how is it our wonderful sons weren’t there!?! Twenty years later, to return and stand on the same ground is humbling. The elements have not changed in their persistence. The barn is more weathered, the coastline more ocean-carved, and windswept. Lol, so are we. Life works hard on us all. But what a brilliant adventure! What gratitude lives in our hearts. Happy Anniversary @donutshoppeproductions

In a darkened theater, in actual physical space, we connected, we sweat and panicked; laughed wickedly and, of course, wept. We fought demons and battled our egos; we were terrified and humbled and radiant and messy. It is no small thing to willingly reach for these things and be deeply changed by them. Brothers. My 💙💙. While I have my ever-constant worries, fears, and complicated concerns about my sons playing football, I must say, there is a special bonding that happens with FB (all sports, I’m sure) and uniforming up to be on a team, coaching each other (as brothers and teammates) through lovely wins and not-so-pretty losses. I’m proud to watch these guys learn and grow together, building character and creating those Friday Night Lights memories. @donutshoppeproductions
