It is an incredible honor to be awarded as the Hasselblad Award laureate for 2023. I extend my deepest gratitude to the Hasselblad Foundation and their incredible team. The coinciding exhibition is on view until 21 January 2024. If you find yourself in Gothenburg I hope you’ll stop in and see the show. 📷 @hasselbladfoundation

Out now, ‘The Shape of Things’—an unflinching look at the circus-like quality of contemporary American political life. “The Shape of Things” centers on a seven-part film projected onto a Cyclorama—a panoramic-style cylindrical screen that dates to the 19th century—that addresses the turmoil of current events in the United States and the “long march forward. Drawing on news and TV footage from the civil rights era to today, the films examine race and civil unrest in America’s past and present, combining documentary directness with poetic rhythm to articulate the dangerous mounting resistance to the “browning of America.” Foreword by Tom Eccles. Text by Thomas Lax, Huey Copeland. Interview by Hans Ulrich Obrist. Copies available for purchase @mweditions shop as well as at major book retailers. @tom.eccles @marmalademe @dt1oly2 @hansulrichobrist @mweditions @artbook

Next Saturday, October 7th, I’m hosting a day long symposium addressing questions of monuments and their role in contemporary society. The event is free to attend and I hope you will join me to hear not only myself, but my very talented colleagues address these issues.
To kick off our Monumental Concerns symposium, my good friend and fellow artist @hankwillisthomas will be in conversation with @ericgottesman at 4pm in Shemin Auditorium. Please join us in welcoming them both to Syracuse University campus.
