Seldom do you come across stories, moments, and characters that never leave you. They stay in your heart forever. These pictures were taken 10 long years ago while shooting my most favorite series, ‘STORIES BY RABINDRANATH TAGORE.’ I was in the 6th grade when I got casted for the role of ‘CHARUSOSHI’ and had the opportunity to work with an incredible cast and crew. I received immense appreciation for portraying the character of Charu. I tried to portray the character with my limited understanding of the story, without realizing the actual melancholy, psyche, and depth of the character. After 10 years, I started to understand the depth of the character, though I won’t claim to have entirely grasped it, but I began to live with her emotions. At some point in our lives, we all experience inexplicable pain, when everything seems to revolve around us, yet we feel static and stoned, finding comfort in our numbness. In the end, every Charu learns to let go by accepting the universal truth of life.
Charu has been hiding inside me since then, after all these years, I realized that. In every life individuals find themselves in a situation like Charu, standing still, looking at Tarapada’s flute with eyes filled with scattered dreams in the last scene of the series. I always wondered how she could live with so much pain? Nobody knows how? Maybe time is the answer. Time does not heal anything, but it teaches you how to live with the pain without repeatedly touching the wound. People may come and go, but you have to remember that you’re your own home. The rest are just guests, ‘অতিথি.’ Still, my hopeless romantic soul wishes that every Charu could hold her ‘অতিথি’ (Tarapada) a little longer 🙂
I am truly thankful to my audience for showing so much love for Charu and the entire series. For those who have not watched it yet, please give it a watch, ‘STORIES BY RABINDRANATH TAGORE’ is now streaming on Netflix.
P.S. – Wearing clogs with a saree was underrated at that time. It was much ahead of its time. It seems like I used to wear them with so much confidence 😂.
