I wish I could go back and tell this girl everything I know now.
I hope that I can teach my daughter three important things:
1. Critical thinking.
2. Empathy.
3. Confidence.
I do what I do because I understand how hard it is to be young. The world is full of negative messaging. A small moment of positive reinforcement could change the direction and trajectory of a young person‘s life. I hear successful people tell the origin story of someone who believed in them, all the time.
I want The National STEM Challenge/Festival to be that catalyst moment for every kid that submits a project.

Throwback to a wild and weird day. @Mythbusters was testing if water is hard as cement if you fall from a great enough height. The episode was strange enough on its own but while we were on location, I was tapped on the shoulder. I turned around and @tomhanks said “Kari! I feel like I know you”. Of course Tom Hanks has a kid that loves science! This is just proof that no matter who you are or where you come from, science is exciting. Also confirms the myth that sometimes you should meet your heroes (and their cool kid).
I hope every kid in America checks out @nationalstemfestival #Mythbusters is long over but my love of curiosity and celebrating science together is still strong.
Also this is a shameless post hoping this brilliant man helps get the word out. ♥️🤣
I used the word “STEMerati” this morning. I was looking for an illustration of that word on Google and this image popped up! We were all at a Discovery party in 2010. @billnye is fun on and off the clock.

I am sure you have noticed that I have been posting a lot about the National STEM Challenge. Since Mythbusters, I have been part of so many science fairs and engineering festivals. The ones in DC, that included kids across the country always brought me a profound hope for the future.
These images are from a roundtable with top women leaders and girls attending the White House Science Fair. Also a photo from a demo I did at the Science and Engineering Festival that was sent to me me recently by a mom. She said that festival inspired her daughter into a STEM career.
These moments matter. It only takes a spark to light a rocket. That is why I am on this journey now. I am so proud to be part of the @explr_media team building the @nationalstemfestival

Did you know there is a bison paddock in @goldengatenps ?
Ziggy and I spent the evening exploring. I love this park. We walked past a lake with a lone saxophone player serenading us from a bench. We walked through trees and watched a hawk. We ended up at the king windmill before walking the beach for sunset. This city is more than its buildings and streets. Half of the city is covered in parks and it is surrounded by water. Look for beauty and you will find it.
