Look who I met? And guess what I caught him doing! One of my favourite people and poet. It makes morning walks so worth it. I hope to do it more often.

After many many years, I took a train ride. While it’s my most favourite mode of transport, my hectic life has forced it to become the last option. It was a short trip from Mumbai to Vadodara and back, but was exciting enough to bring back many memories of the numerous train rides I took till I was about 25.
It was also fun because I was with my team of young bright women who ended up teaching me some complex card games as we gobbled up yummy (but unhealthy!) local Gujju snacks. I would have liked to capture the moment in a photo but we forgot in the middle of having too much fun!
In my excitement, I even took a Mumbai local train from Borivali to Bandra. It was faster, fun-er and lesser carbon footprint. Aur kya chahiye!

Another anniversary of a release – 4 years since a music video called ‘India’s Got Colour’ was created to celebrate the 10th year of the campaign #DarkisBeautiful. Jitne log, utne rang (as many people, that many colours). I brought together a cast and crew that gave their unconditional support.
Here are some images from the video. But the link to watch it on YouTube is in the story. And please share it if you like it.
It is not easy to change a world ridden with biases, prejudice and discrimination of all kinds. But drop by drop, we could try and fill the pot, if not the ocean!
Thank you all…

Five years ago, on this day, Manto was released. Have you seen it? If you haven’t, will you watch it on Netflix or JioCinema?
While it is set in the 40s, it is also a story of our times. The film chronicles the most tumultuous four years of the life of the Urdu writer Saadat Hasan Manto (1945-49). His own story is seamlessly interspersed with some of the stories written by him. I found them inseparable. The film is a homage to all the Mantos of the World, for their courage of conviction.
Grateful to all those who were part of that memorable journey. Sadly don’t have more images handy. But each one of you, and more, made this film possible.

What the day looks like – arranging books becomes reading time, then sushi making and playing with Ms. Miso. 1 hour job took 2 days but the stop overs were just as much fun as the final books that made it to the shelves. If you are wondering like me as to why are the books in a heap, I was told the the tall piles collapsed on each other! 🤦🏽♀️ we took out a big box of books for a community library for kids who may never have access to such wonderful reads. Pass forward should be a way of life for all of us. I need to do more.

Thank you for the stimulating conversation, Shrinivas Dempo, President, @aima.india , about ‘Cinema with a Conscience: A Choice’. It was an honour also to read the citation for Rohini Nilekani whose work I have admired for long. Thank you Rekha Sethi for everything! Congratulations Mr. R. C. Bhargava, Chairman, Maruti Suzuki, for receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award. It was inspiring to listen to you. Thanks for the lovely sari @vrikshdesigns and the weaver from Odisha. Also glad my parents could come.
This post is part of my diary keeping! When I did what! 😀

I’m happy to share for those who may not know that in 2010 I narrated an audiobook, based on “The Story of my Experiments with Truth” by MK Gandhi. This was one of the cherished books in my early years.
No one needs to be put on a pedestal but neither do they need to be dismissed without knowing enough about their contribution and commitment for a larger good. My mother comes from a Gandhian family. Both her parents were freedom fighters and having grown up with many stories of that struggle, I may have reasons to feel this way!
