Condolizza, a fierce defender of a girl’s right to sex education and reproductive health. Kalpa, the Nepalese student who refuses to leave her sisters in learning behind. Karla @Karla_rax, who fights for the empowerment of girls and the end of child marriage. They are why we must pursue radical possibilities for girls’ education and civic participation.
At #WD2023 in Kigali, Rwanda, I had the honor of joining them and @malala in conversation on these critical issues. Yet, there should be nothing radical about demanding a better, more equitable world for our girls – it’s an obligation we all share. Here’s to finding and funding more spaces where girls’ voices are heard, their intellects are harnessed, their bodies are protected and their leadership changes everything. The future of our world depends on it. #GirlsEducation

Last week I had the privilege of moderating a panel discussion at @howard1867 on the importance of encouraging young people to explore careers in public service and the vital role of Black women serving in Congress. As challenges continue to buffet our country, we need leaders at every level ready to do what’s right.
We had a timely and lively discussion of how bipartisanship is not an epithet and how we must resist the false choice of prosperity versus progress. Thank you to Howard University and the Ronald Walters Center for their commitment to helping students stand united for justice and equality.

As a member of the @NDI board, I proudly joined our delegation from Burkina Faso, Mexico and Zambia to participate in #WD2023 in Kigali, Rwanda. These amazing women are breaking barriers and truly delivering for those who cannot afford to wait. From aiding indigenous women in Oxaca to training young women for office in Livingstone to helping single mothers create livelihoods in Burkina Faso, these women are doing the work.
Democracy is more than a concept – it is roadmap to a better future. We must walk with them and follow their lead.

To admire young Rwandans and refugees from the DRC and Burundi who have found their passion in dance.
