Ashish Shakya Instagram – Could have listened to Javed Akhtar speak for another couple of hours easy. Throw in some Scotch and soda and it could have been a legendary all-nighter. But sadly it is frowned upon to rush the stage with drinks and Magic Masala. So I had to be content with him signing my copy of Quiver. And of course, the new book on his life called Talking Life (by the wonderful Nasreen Munni Kabir). He spoke about his childhood, his early days in Bombay, wild overconfident antics (some version of which we’ve all pulled in our 20s), his work with Salim Khan and so much more, all of which is in the book. And while I am a microscopic baby writer in comparison, listening to him talk about writing made me feel connected. To him, to this mad city where we’re all trying to make it and most importantly, to the craft itself.
