Personal tragedy hits our school We are devastated. A young student in our boys’ school has just lost fourteen members of his family in Gaza, murdered during the Israeli bombings. Oh my God! How heartless! They don’t even know what or who they’re killing. If they could face the souls of those they’re slaughtering, and look them in the eyes, they might not find it so easy to pull the trigger. But the Day of Judgment will provide them that opportunity. For the sake of the little ones – Stop Bombing, Cease Fire! The Boy Running in Paradise: This is the story of a Palestinian woman that I recently heard. A loud and frightening air strike was underway somewhere in Gaza. A mother was crying out, desperately calling for her son to come home and take shelter. She looked out and was so relieved to see him hurriedly running towards her arms. But in a split second, a jet plane suddenly soared over them and dropped a bomb, which directly hit the ground nearby, killing the boy instantly right in front of the mother’s eyes. Helpless, unable to raise a finger to save her son, the mother froze, watching the scene in horror. Heart broken, she just wept, raising her hands and asking God the Most Just and Kind, for patience to bear her loss. She repeated “inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajioun”, We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. The mother’s joyful young son had been torn away and vanished from her life; violently taken by this brutal and inhumane war upon millions of innocent people, as they struggle to survive the unfolding tragedy of a massive Israeli military invasion and occupation of their homeland. Tearfully, she informed her family and friends later what happened. She said, “The only thing I worry about, is that it hurt him – it looked so terrible.” That night, the woman went to sleep and she saw her son in her dream, in Jannah (Paradise). She asked him anxiously: “Ya mama. Oh, my beloved son, what happened to you? Are you okay? Did it hurt you?” The boy said, “I don’t know what happened to me, mummy. I was running towards you when you were calling out to me. I was running towards our house. And then suddenly I… I saw myself running in the garden. That’s it.” The Mother asked him, “Did you get hurt? Did it hurt you? “No. I just felt like a big pinch. It beats me how people do not see others as human! The history of oppression and genocide is one which is uncomfortable for most people to face. But the truth is that many of the most terrible afflictions of modern history are linked to the development of European power and colonial adventures. In the ’70s, there was an article that made me furious, but also made me laugh, called ‘Was God An Astronaut?’ The whole premise of putting God into a space rocket was so outrageous I just decided to have a go and wrote ‘Was Dog A Doughnut?” Why go to the moon? Why are some people so enthused about going to the moon? Don’t get me wrong, I love the moon, but spending trillions on these expeditions while much of the world’s population is starving, is gross. Is it to try and explain the origins of the universe in connection with traces of water? The Qur’an already tells us that God created every living thing from water (Q 21:30). Oh, but that’s not verifiable. So maybe it’s to do with an attempt to entirely do away with belief in God, and classify it all as accidental ’cause and effect’, without a Divine Cause or beginning? Some scientists are almost blind when it comes to the human spirit.
