Laura and I honor the thousands of lives stolen by terrorists 19 years ago this morning. We remember the shock of evil and the pain of loss. And we remember the courage of Americans in the moments and days following 9/11. As we honor the fallen, may we also recall the strength of our great nation.
As I remember my mom, I’m thankful for these two – and all the strong moms who help us get through tough times with love, laughter, joy, and grace. Happy Mother’s Day.

I just talked to the President-elect of the United States, Joe Biden. I extended my warm congratulations and thanked him for the patriotic message he delivered last night. I also called Kamala Harris to congratulate her on her historic election to the vice presidency. Though we have political differences, I know Joe Biden to be a good man, who has won his opportunity to lead and unify our country. The President-elect reiterated that while he ran as a Democrat, he will govern for all Americans. I offered him the same thing I offered Presidents Trump and Obama: my prayers for his success, and my pledge to help in any way I can. I want to congratulate President Trump and his supporters on a hard-fought campaign. He earned the votes of more than 70 million Americans – an extraordinary political achievement. They have spoken, and their voices will continue to be heard through elected Republicans at every level of government. The fact that so many of our fellow citizens participated in this election is a positive sign of the health of our democracy and a reminder to the world of its strength. No matter how you voted, your vote counted. President Trump has the right to request recounts and pursue legal challenges, and any unresolved issues will be properly adjudicated. The American people can have confidence that this election was fundamentally fair, its integrity will be upheld, and its outcome is clear. The challenges that face our country will demand the best of President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris – and the best of us all. We must come together for the sake of our families and neighbors, and for our nation and its future. There is no problem that will not yield to the gathered will of a free people. Laura and I pray for our leaders and their families. We ask for God’s continued blessings on our country. And we urge all Americans to join us in wishing our next President and Vice President well as they prepare to take up their important duties.
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave… O’er the land of the free – and the home of the brave!
Laura and I join our fellow Americans in mourning the loss of Congressman John Lewis. As a young man marching for equality in Selma, Alabama, John answered brutal violence with courageous hope. And throughout his career as a civil rights leader and public servant, he worked to make our country a more perfect union. While I haven’t gotten to golf or mountain bike with my Team 43 pals this year, they remain a priority to @laurawbush and me. We’re looking forward to seeing our friend and Team 43 warrior, Saul Martinez, on Variety’s fourth annual “Salute to Service” on the @history channel. The program will honor service members and organizations, including the @thebushcenter’s Military Service Initiative. We can never fully repay our veterans and their families, but we ought to try. We owe them a deep debt of gratitude – today, and every day. Happy Veterans Day, and may God bless those who have served our great country.

A group of advisers including Condi Rice, Josh Bolten and Mike Gerson encouraged me to act before an entire generation was lost,” former President George W. Bush (@georgewbush) writes in a guest opinion. “In 2003, Congress authorized the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, or PEPFAR, with huge bipartisan support. Twenty years later, the results are clear: PEPFAR has saved more than 25 million lives and prevented millions of HIV infections. Members of Congress and American citizens from both parties should be proud.” Instead of celebrating this success and extending these gains, the president writes, “some in Washington have called the future of this program — which accounts for less than one-tenth of 1 percent of our federal budget — into question.” 🔗Visit the link in our bio to read more.
