#CityLab2023 was one for the books 🙌 Thanks to everyone who joined us in Washington, D.C. for conversations with mayors, cultural innovators, and business leaders on tackling urban challenges, sharing scalable solutions, and the importance of local leadership in delivering tangible results for residents of cities around the world. Here’s a look at some of our favorite moments.

A holiday gift idea for anyone who cares about the future of cities — Mayor’s Desk: 20 Conversations with Local Leaders Solving Global Problems. The 20 leaders featured share their insights on tackling some of the toughest challenges we face with creativity and collaboration.
The climate crisis is no longer some far-off menace. It’s here and now. From accelerating @bloombergdotorg’s efforts to protect 30% of the ocean by 2030, to powering @bloombergnef research, learn how we’re protecting biodiversity in key ecosystems ahead of @cop28uaeofficial.
We can’t beat climate change while we’re still burning coal. Across @bloombergdotorg and @bloomberg, we’re helping accelerate the transition to clean energy. Here’s how.
What is COP? And why is @cop28uaeofficial so important? @bloombergdotorg’s Ailun Yang explains the basics of the annual UN Conference on Climate Change, outlines the most important conversations happening this year, and shares how the first-ever Global Stocktake will measure progress toward the Paris Agreement goals.
While local leaders have a critical role to play on climate solutions, they need a bigger role on the global stage at COP climate talks. That’s changing at @COP28_UAE. In partnership with the COP28 Presidency, we’re convening the COP28 Local Climate Action Summit. Antha Williams explains more in the first of our Countdown to COP28 series, where team members from @Bloomberg and @BloombergDotOrg answer questions about the upcoming UN Conference on Climate Change.
The new Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center is designed to foster collaboration between policymakers, faculty, and students and brings Johns Hopkins’ world-class research and expertise to the center of Washington. It will serve as a connecting bridge between both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue, and we can’t wait to see the ideas and initiatives that emerge from the leaders who will come together in this space. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible.
The TFCD made tremendous strides to bring greater transparency to financial markets around climate-related risks and opportunities. There’s so much work to be done – but they created significant momentum to more fully integrate climate data into the global economy and spur private investment in clean energy. Visit tcfdhub.org to learn more about the impact of the TCFD recommendations and how they’re being implemented.

@magen_david_adom_america, the Israeli Red Cross, plays a critical role in making sure all Israelis receive the medical attention they need. It’s important to show the world that we’re united in our condemnation of Hamas and committed to protecting the health and safety of all Israelis. It’s never been more important for future leaders and innovators to explore, experiment, collaborate, and engage in dialogue. The new @johnshopkinsu Bloomberg Center at 555 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C., is designed to create those opportunities for students across the arts, sciences, business, and more. By creating a space for the next generation of great minds to come together, and giving them access to the experts and resources at Johns Hopkins, we can advance solutions to the challenges that confront Washington, city halls, and beyond.

Situated between the White House and the Capitol, the new @johnshopkinsu Bloomberg Center is designed to bring people with different perspectives, backgrounds, and areas of expertise together. It’s a place where students in fields ranging from engineering and public health to government and business can learn with — and from — each other. From the floor plans to the art on its walls, every detail was chosen to foster the creative thinking, open free exchange of ideas, and interdisciplinary collaboration that our future leaders will need as they step up to take on big challenges.
Cities looking for solutions to the toughest challenges we face are too often forced to reinvent the wheel, with little or no help from outside experts or perspective from other local leaders. We’re creating a single, dedicated program – the Bloomberg Cities Idea Exchange – that helps local leaders share ideas and innovations that have proven successful, so they can adapt and implement them for their residents. Ready my @citylab op-ed at the link in my bio.
