Because of the strike, we haven’t had much chance lately to be out and about promoting and supporting projects. That will change soon enough once we all settle on a fair deal. Fortunately, we have been able to do that though for films like this one, which were made under our SAG-AFTRA Interim Agreement. And it was nice to have cause to throw on a suit. 😉
I’m also grateful to have gotten to celebrate my friend Mark’s first film in the theaters as a director. It’s been powerful to watch his journey and to witness his vision coming to life. Each breakthrough is special in its own way. Having your first film in theaters is definitely one of those. Congrats again, @markgantt, for this huge accomplishment! Many more to come!

As we discussed in the previous videos on Moving Beyond Loneliness as an LGBTQ person, doing the inner work to make connection and community possible in our lives is invaluable. That said, we can understand ourselves and our situation well and still stay stuck.
The next key is to GET INTO MOTION. To push past the resistance to being intimate that we’ve understandably learned, largely from the guarded self-protection of our youth. And there are specific and practical ways to go about doing that. I talk about a few of them here.
In the video to follow this one, we’ll discuss the next step to take — about the responses we get from others when we reach out — for moving beyond loneliness into a life of connection and community.

There is considerable conversation happening right now about the attenuation of friendships and friendship circles due, of course, to the pandemic but also to the changes in our ways of relating brought on by technology and other factors. The surgeon general warned of “an epidemic of loneliness.”
So, if you’re experiencing any of that or if you discover that you’re burying yourself in work and other activities (like binging television and/or scrolling on devices) to avoid the feelings associated with it, please know that you’re not alone. And while, from that place, it can be challenging to take contrary action, the payoff may be crucial. I’ve had to take my own steps to counter this subtle but insidious shift.
Please make the effort to engage and connect and find community. I hope these steps I’m suggesting might help. Much love as always.

Moving beyond loneliness is really just a way of moving toward connection. That’s its trajectory.
