Thought about quitting this morning, really wanted to share it with you. Thank you so much for all of your support.
I doubt @funnyaida will remember when we met, but I do. And it has everything to do with her kindness. I walked into a #nonprofit event, not knowing a soul. In a city like #LosAngeles that can make someone feel pretty insecure and lonely. But Aida sat at my table and talked to me like we were friends. Then she went up and made the entire room laugh hysterically. I will never forget the kindness she showed me on that day. Fast forward 5 years and I got to sit down with her and two other amazing #Latina comics who are making waves in the industry.

Last week I had such an event filled a few days that I wanted to share with you. Participated in @mothstories in Chicago (one of my favorite cities) to two sold out audiences with an amazing group of talented storytellers. This is something that I have always wanted to do. Thank you to The Chi for showing up and showing out.
Then, I went to Miami to participate in the @miamibookfair as an author, another dream come true. But first, my girl @officialdashingthalia got me all the way together honey. it was so beautiful to be in the presence of people who saw themselves in my book and come from the community that I was raised in. I was so humbled, I will forever be grateful.. thank you Miami for loving me the way that you do.
I cannot lie though, the highlight of it all was taking my mother and sister to the Marc Anthony concert. My mom had not been to a concert since the 70s. I can’t express to you what an amazing feeling it was to be the source that was able to make one of her dreams come true. The icing on the cake was taking my sister, because Marc Anthony is her favorite artist. I always dreamed of doing big things for my family, it has often been the fuel to keep me going. We often think about doing grandiose things, honestly it’s the moments you get to share with those who matter most on the an intimate level for me. Nothing to do with the outside and what other people see and think.
Our family has had its share of struggle and sadness, joy is something that we are also worthy of. Nothing fills my heart more than to see the people that I love happy. Dancing and rejoicing with my sister and mother, will forever be one of the best moments of my life.
Once you forgive and cross over to the other side, I tell you that what you feel on the inside is pure bliss. I welcome you to the other side.
This is my first voiceover, by the way, felt kind of corny. But I always get happy when I’m talking about the people who matter the most to me.

Thank you so much for all of the messages, I truly feel so grateful that the book is getting to those of you who I wrote it for. You understand this world. I hope you know how worthy you are and how special it is that you are in this world. No matter what they say about what makes you valuable, the Most High says otherwise.
I cannot express enough how much these people mean to me and how thankful I am to have been able to do this life with them. I hope that I can do all of my lifetimes with the people who made me who I am today.
To those of you who have read, who have praised my uncles and seen them for their beautiful people that they are and have been. Thank you! If you look into my heart, you can see that every single piece belongs to these people that I love so much.

This has been on my heart for quite some time. I have heard some stories about myself from people who I thought were my friends that were pretty shocking. I am in no way beyond correction, I make a lot of mistakes. I am in no way perfect, and continue to work to be better than I was yesterday. Anyone who is real in my life has no problem checking me. I’m busy, a family woman, and I have to prioritize the things that are most important in my life. I have always felt indebted to all of the people who have done things for me, some of them made sure of it. What I’ve learned is that some people will demonize you to justify their jealousy.
I continue to be myself, the self that I have always been. But I cannot apologize for not being in the same condition and position that I was in previously. It would be on me if I didn’t move forward with all of the help and support that I have received throughout my life.
I wanted to share it in case it may help you too. People who really love you and really care about you, are counting on your success!

One of the most common questions that I have received during my interviews for “Legitimate Kid” is how do I feel about speaking of things that our community believes should stay “in house”. I’m breaking code, “lo que pasa en casa, se queda en casa”. (What happens at home, stays at home). It is part of our indoctrination, and how generational traumas continue to thrive.
Learning to advocate, for myself, was one of the greatest betrayals to some in my community. But what I really learned while working on myself, was that it was actually an act of love and taking action for those that were coming after me.
