Audra McDonald Instagram – Not quite sure where to begin about how this picture came into being. But I will try… About two weeks ago I was sitting in a hotel room in Kansas City scrolling TikTok. And I came across a post by the incredible singer/songwriter Emily King @emilykingmusic The reason I was following Emily is because my incredible daughter Zoe had introduced me to Emily’s music about a year ago when she took me to Emily‘s amazing concert in NY. Emily posted a Tik Tok of herself & her mom, Kim @kimkalesti singing a song that her mom had written called I Love Today. It was the most beautiful song. It took my breath away. But what you need to understand is that my Music Director, Andy @governor_giacomo214 & I have been searching for a song that explores the idea of being in the moment, about being present & grateful for the “now”. So needless to say when
I saw the video I was so moved by it. This beautiful daughter and her beautiful mama singing this beautiful song together that perfectly encapsulated the message that I’ve been looking for. I DM’ed Emily, & asked if she might be willing to ask her mom if I could sing her song in my concerts. Emily sweetly replied that she had spoken to her mom and her mom had said yes. So…3 days later Andy and I performed Kim’s song for the first time in Denver. Emily & Kim happened to have a friend in the audience that night who videoed it for them. 🙏🏾❤️ Cut to last night in Philadelphia where Emilly & Kim were able to come to my concert & I was so thrilled to introduce the audience to Kim & Emily & to Kim‘s beautiful song. The extra added bonus was that Zoe was also able to attend the concert & we all finally got to meet backstage after the concert. It felt like a long lost family reunion…leading to the picture you see here. The world can be a magical place. The universe is a powerful place. I love connections. I’m so grateful to my daughter for connecting me to Emily & her incredible music & soul. I’m grateful to Emily for connecting me to her mom, Kim, and Kim’s incredible music & soul. I’m grateful for Kim’s beautiful song and beautiful message. I’m supremely grateful for all of it. I loved last night. I love tomorrow and I love today. | Posted on 04/Oct/2023 23:04:59
