CRMC Tutorial: Foreshortening (Save this for your next shoot!)
At #CocoRochaModelCamp, @cocorocha assists models in understanding and mitigating the impact of foreshortening. Through the utilization of various posing techniques, we strive to create the illusion of balanced proportions and ensure accurate representation of body parts. In the realm of fashion imagery, foreshortening refers to an optical effect that arises when an object or body part is angled towards the camera, resulting in its appearance being shorter, longer, larger, or smaller in relation to other body parts or the overall frame of the photograph.
As a model, it is crucial to be aware of foreshortening and its potential effects on bodily proportions. If certain body parts unintentionally appear elongated or distorted due to foreshortening, it can lead to a disproportionate appearance in the photograph. For instance, when a model extends her arm towards the camera, the arm closest to the lens may appear larger or disproportionately longer compared to the rest of her body. Likewise, if a leg is positioned in a way that conceals it, it might give the impression of being absent. These unintended distortions can disrupt the desired visual harmony and balance in the image.
