Thinking a lot about divestment, where I feel capable, and where I feel paralyzed. How deeply we all have to swim in hypocrisy. Sometimes by choice, by ignorance, or abusive force (hello war tax). Noticing how much perfectionism aids my paralysis, how boycotting McDonald’s feels easy for my ego bc I don’t experience food scarcity, but thinking of changing the ways smartphones and electric cars are made can feel so vast that it leaves me with a defeated “but how?!?!”impossible!”
🇨🇩
Then I remember that every single one of these resources can be sourced without child labor, that every single community that’s ever been colonized could have been offered a FAIR trade deal instead of a slaughtered culture, and that this is an issue of who pr*paganda taught us to see as human vs commodity. I remember emergent strategy and how everybody doesn’t have to do everything for something important to get done.

This #boycottblackfriday call by @dossevia is one of the mini actions that I’m joining to add to the many of all of us. Maybe it’s in your window of tolerance to join me? Maybe your action centers are elsewhere. Either way, I’m learning and loving the energy of not waiting for some “official” entity to announce that we’re allowed to start setting our own limits on how we participate in the bullsh*t. I’m committing to keep up the practice of returning perfectionism back to the principals of colonization that it came from and instead say yes to experimentation, possibility, and course correction again and again, as ritual, as often as I have to.

I bought this stunning photograph from a beautiful action I just learned about: Prints for @thepcrf . 100% of the proceeds will go to the Pa*estine Children’s Relief Fund. It ends on 11/20 so don’t put it off 🙂 Link is in my bio 🍉. This image feels like home 🌴🐊

Solidarity won, Peggy Scott is back for @gildedagehbo Season 2 on @streamonmax, and is joining the chorus of freedom writers in the ancestral realm crying out for a #CEASEFIRENOW in Gaza.
Peggy makes me sit with how many of my ancestors and family members cried out for freedom and mercy in the face of arrogant Presidents who callously shrugged “never” for generations. She invites me to sit with my own family’s reality. My parents, their parents, and back and back it goes worked the fields of this land well into the 1970s. My cousins and I are the first in our family line who didn’t spend our childhoods twisting undeveloped muscles to pick oranges and cherries and cotton, being cheated out of pennies to keep white men rich on their stolen Indigenous land. This isn’t “history” for so many of us, it’s our aunties who braided our hair with the same hands that bled in a Florida orange grove. All I can see is family when I see our Palest*nian siblings dragging their things through the street begging for a chance to survive Jim Crow and Christopher Columbus by another name. @joebiden I am so disgusted that you would play in our faces like this, but not surprised. The fact that you’re this flippant with your soul is truly astonishing to me.
Because my people never stopped fighting for the dignity of our souls, I now have the nuanced honor of standing in a spotlight to collect grossly overdue payments on behalf of my bloodline. I am so humbled that for hundreds of years someone sensed that I was a child worth screaming in the street for. Let’s keep breathing deep and raising the vibration of the soul of this freedom cry, my Mema taught me that there’s a clandestine power in soul nourishment that can’t be controlled by the state.
For some entertainment during the storm, tune in on Sunday nights to see how Peggy attempts to move in alignment with the values of freedom and integrity through the unthinkable, much like many of us are attempting to right now: a righteous pursuit.
*This is not a statement on behalf of our tv show or the network, but on behalf of my spirit which is inseparable from me and my characters as a creative artist.*
